Dear all,

Just want to let you know that we had our Ofsted inspection and we did fab. I'm so proud of the children, staff team and parents.

It was such a different experience than our last inspection over 4 years ago. The inspector seemed to have good knowledge of early years and primary and was just really positive. It was an exciting/mentally exhausting day for everyone involved.

After the initial shock everybody felt at ease and we were able to do our best on the day.

But really I want to say thank you all, by reading comments and updates on this forum, I felt confident, prepared and supported.

Best wishes

Well done - you can relax now - spare a thought for my team and me - it is now 6 years and 3 months since our last inspection - we have been wary of every knock on the door now for the past three years!!!!!!

I was feeling some tension most mornings before going to work for almost that length of time, usually because I was almost done or had had to push myself to be done with updating something to have ready in case we were going to be inspected that day - new children's records, progress summaries, the SEF, the development plan or some policy. It makes such a difference to not have that stress. I hope you will enjoy the relief to have it done as much as I do. Congratulations!

Thank you all for your positivity.

Just to quickly outline the most important bits on our inspection.

She started the morning by speaking with a couple of committee representatives/parents and got set up in the middle of the main room to observe children during free play.

When the inspector was observing the environment and she started to take an interest in the planning board I was then able to introduce her to the planning folder and the cycle we use for planning and moving children on through their next steps etc. I was able to refer to how we involve parents and children themselves in the planning process and the involvement of our SENco, S&L co ordinate. Plus at that time I mentioned peer obs, evaluating our practice and key person partnerships.

The inspector tracked two children, viewed their Learning and development journeys along with the key person and had a discussion about our tracking process.

With the manager she questioned safeguarding, peer obs again, and learning objectives of the room. This was where she was able to talk about 2yr olds, supporting SEN and EAL.

Another member of staff was asked to tour the outdoor environment, so actually on the day most of the staff were involved.

She observed the snack time, group times and free flow play.

Oh and I must mention she also spoke with parents and the children too.

That's it I think!

The main advice I would give is be confident, you know your stuff so take this as an opportunity to prove your great.

Its definitely a relief and reaffirmed our bond as a team.

I'm so happy :D:D:D and thank you again for all the comments, advice and encouragement.

This time one thing I would say that stood out is that the inspector spoke to everyone rather than just me as manager - plus she was one of these clever people who had eyes & ears EVERYWHERE!! :P

SEF again was the one thing I would say was important - she had read it before arrival and also looked at it again with me, I did ask how often Ofsted would expect to see it updated and her reply was once a year in her opinion was enough - which was a relief for me as I tend to do mine in the August hols!

Well done Silvermist and Thumperrabbit! You must be relieved. I'm a little jealous I must say! I go through days when I'm sure the knock is coming... But I'm not ready, not sure I'll ever be. The to do list never seems to get any shorter. As has been said you deserve a pat on the back - make sure you treat yourselves!
