Data protection

Hello everyone,

We have recently taken over a preschool setting and I have come across data protection on a online course very recently. I understand about data protection and have a policy in place that shows how we store all paperwork and so on, however they have mentioned that you should sign up for data protection and this will cost around £40.00 a year I think, i'm just wondering what other settings do if they have joined, I cant seem to find any information on this and if we do need it or not. I am wiling to join but just need reassurance as to whether this is what is needed.

Look forward to reading your reply and any other guidance that you can give me on this

Many thanks

Yes you do need to. Its £35 for the year, actually I've just noticed that it is a condition in the annual contract with our LA, that we sign up. Its (I think- sorry it's at work) ico.org.uk. ICO (Information Commissioners office)

Well I got the 'i' and 'c' bit :D:D ::1a

Yes I checked and we were exempt too. Can't for the life of me remember why we were either but I might need to check this out again.

OK now I'm wondering why you are exempt but I'm not :blink: :(

Well I just checked and it said we didn't need to register...

However, I have recently attended training and was told were required to register. I have to be honest I really can't remember what training it was but it was one of the following; Safeguarding- designated person, Ofsted ready or an EYPP meeting.

I'm not exempt because I am a sole trader e.g., a business :unsure: - I think there are exemptions for organisations that have some kind of charitable status (although given current funding levels and how much we are already subsidising the "free offer" I reckon we must all be exempt xDxD )

Ah - yes, I'm a sole trader too - that's OK then (not!)

As we hold electronic records of children - registers, contact details, Learning Journeys etc. we always register with the Data Protection. Better to have and not need, than need and not have and be caught out
