  1. Scones are in the oven… when are you lot getting here?
  2. I’m doing the ironing!
  3. Well, I was awake at 4.30 this morning and had done a load of laundry, cleaned the bathroom and made a pot of mushroom soup by 7am! A morning of work but since then I have dozed, read and am about to do some crochet (second gargoyle toe!). I have rethought the rhubarb and custard cake - too much ‘faff’ so am roasting my the rhubarb to eat at some point and am contemplating making scones instead. Does that make you feel better? Oh and I’ve just redeemed a ‘tea and book club’ subscription I was given!
  4. It’s funny isn’t it? I have used this colour before but it’s been grey for ages. That was the intention when I set the colours as I want it to go in a particular room but the change is refreshing!
  5. I always find myself wishing I could get a closer look at all the amazing needlework - both royal and ecclesiastical! It’s the little things… 😉 I have worked really hard this week on sticking to a routine, getting more sleep and eating properly. It’s mostly worked and definitely contributes to me feeling calmer. I worked this morning and did Tesco’s and the library this afternoon. I have lots more work on the TDL but the urge to get back to crocheting the gargoyle (body, head and arms are done) is strong! I have 14 books that I should be doing assessments on - I might try to do those and then tackle the rest of the planning tomorrow morning when my brain is more in thinking mode! Tuna pasta is on the menu tonight - I’m quite glad of the rain to justify the comfort food. Other cooking plans this weekend include mushroom soup, cheese scones and trying out a rhubarb and custard cake! Oh, and in exciting news the temperature has finally increased enough for me to add some blue to my temperature blanket!
  6. That was exactly the phrase I used about to someone else earlier! Actually, I was intrigued by the pattern - I like trying new things but also we’re going to be learning about Christopher Wren at school and the gargoyles on St Paul’s before going on to make our own clay boggart. I thought a crochet gargoyle might be a good prop!
  7. Not knitting but crochet - I just started making a gargoyle!
  8. Happy birthday Zigzag! No, you mustn't ignore your special day. I am sure that they will always feel a little strange as you think of your day but I hope that over time it becomes easier to remember the lovely times. Sending you lots of good wishes.
  9. You are all so lovely. Thank you! Today, in the end, I have pretty much just ended up pootling and dozing which has probably been good for me although I know I will be feeling bad tomorrow as I remember all the things that I was meant to do but haven't! I don't think I have ever known a school year quite like it. I don't know about others but I know that I find myself so busy during term time and the working week that when it gets to the weekend/holidays I am either wiped out or resentful at the prospect of working even though I know that if I could get just a little ahead with some of the more 'strategic' stuff it could make such a difference. I find it immensely difficult to be accountable to myself. However, it's just after 8pm and I'm dopey so I'm not going to even attempt to do some work tonight. I will go to bed soon and plan an early start. I just need to find ways to be a little more focused and efficient an organised and as Sunnyday suggested a little while ago possibly consider a cleaner (although I suspect the idea is not me at all!)
  10. Thank you! I did get quite a bit of sleep. I’m just doing a bit of crochet catchup with my temperature blanket whilst watching a little TV then I’m going to get on with jobs. I’m not sure. At the moment I’m sleeping very deeply just not for very long which is partly dictated by work and habits. Plus I’ve had very little sense of smell since having covid and I don’t know to what extent that would affect its effectiveness.
  11. Thank you. There’s nothing in particular wrong - just feeling a bit lonesome and tired. I tried calling mum and dad on the way home and it was tricky - they’re getting old and I wish they weren’t. I never did get the foot butter although I discovered that I have a pillow spray from the same people. And yes, a big chunk of the weekend is going to be working.
  12. Feeling quite glad it’s Friday. In bit of a need of a hug. Regretting not being able to stay focused and work last week. All will be well - some sleep will make a world of difference.
  13. I have back to school nerves! Will I get up in time? Remember how to teach? Actually get home at a sensible time of the day this term? Always start with good resolutions but then ‘stuff’ happens!
  14. A previous headteacher was once puzzling over why he’d written SAM in capitals on a particular date in his diary. He kept saying “But what have I got to do with the School Admissions Module on that date?” he kept saying. Luckily he realised in time that it was actually his wife’s (Sam) birthday on that day!
  15. I was once in the supermarket feeling slightly unnerved because a good looking young man kept looking over at me. Eventually he came over and asked if I was Miss Froglet then introduced himself as a child who I’d never actually taught but was in the school where I had my first permanent job. We had a lovely chat but it was very surreal! My soon to be 11 year old niece is just a really nice girl - she and her brother (15) have both been cooking dinner for their family this week - I’ve had some very proud photos!
  16. Glad to hear the validation Sunnyday - it does make a huge difference! I hope both you and Cait enjoy your events this weekend. Louby enjoy your day with or without an impromptu lunch! I am slightly stressing here - this week I had intended to do schoolwork in the mornings and then house stuff/me stuff in the afternoons and evenings. However, I accidentally took the last two days off school mainly because I was stuck with what I was trying to do (planning but I’ve been teaching for 20 years and it seems like it shouldn’t be difficult anymore) and was avoiding it! Now of course, I’m worrying about all that I haven’t done yet I’m still sat in pjs procrastinating. I need to make myself go and do something even just for 15 minutes to get me going! Other than catching up on the schoolwork I am just planning a weekend of cleaning and crafting and I must remember to send a birthday card- my niece is 11 next week which is just frightening!
  17. Oh wow! They look delicious and so neat!
  18. Glad you enjoyed your visit from your niece Zigzag. I have cleared the ironing pile and made some naan bread to have with the aubergine curry I’m making for tea later. Am gradually cleaning the living room. Does anyone remember Nancy off Bake Off a few years ago? She was the one who called Paul the ‘male judge’. Well, she has a couple of green cleaning/living books out which I’ve just bought so am having fun making and using various green cleaning potions.
  19. I’m glad it’s not just me!
  20. I think I would go ahead with the injection Sunnyday - it might just be the final boost the horrible knee needs. I have, today, got back from 4 days with family in the Peak District. It was so beautiful and a good chance to reset a little. I have a renewed vigour for trying to sort out my home and have, this afternoon, properly cleaned out the fridge! It now has that satisfying feeling of knowing it’s clean - I keep opening the door to check on it! I made som hot cross buns which haven’t risen very well but I’m sure will taste fine. Next on the list is getting to the bottom of the ironing pile. I did a bit of thinking while away about how to stay on top of things and not end up with a house that looks like some nasty explosion has happened every school holiday. I think I’m going to need lots of encouragement! Apart from that I’m crocheting some daffodils for a window display (I did finish the TARDIS socks just in time!). Hope all are well. Happy Easter!
  21. Thanks Cait! I hadn’t yet got as far as the Amazon rabbit hole!
  22. It is absolutely the end of term - am SO ready for it! Am away for 4 days next week with family so need to do a little prepping for that. Mainly I want to spend this weekend tidying and cleaning which doesn’t sound exciting but my house is in such a state. I have never managed to find a balance between staying on top of schoolwork, housework and relaxing a little and by the end of term all of it is in something of a state! I need some good underlying systems and routines I think, I just don’t know what! I’m also frantically knitting the second of the TARDIS socks ready for next week and I have an idea for a spring window display I want to get going on! By the way, the time has come to update my school library seasonal display so if anyone has any suggestions for spring related stories I’d love to hear them - I’m thinking of ones along the themes of growing, young animals etc.
  23. I don’t have (and never will have) grandchildren but I love my niblings with all my heart. Did I mention that I’m getting a new one in September?
  24. 😂 Definitely one size fits all!
  25. They are so cool!
