  1. No snow for us just very very cold - it’s making the temperature blanket interesting though!
  2. Mousey I have been a governor for 13 years. I enjoy it but have reached the point where I want my time at home to be free from school! I have mooted stepping down but the school is expecting Ofsted and I also want to be there to support with that. busy week at school - quite a few ‘challenges’ in different ways - I tell myself it’s building resilience! 😉 We have a Christmas stay and play next week if anyone has any easily resource able ideas for activities/crafts I’d love to hear them. All the other classes have TAs who are getting their creative heads on whilst I need to focus on staffing! It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed at the moment! I need a week off just to catch up!
  3. I’m surprised that it exists in my small town! As my brother in law is Nepali it seemed fitting somehow.
  4. Well, I was meant to be watching my sister’s orchestra do their family concert which is always good fun and then my brother in law was going to cook tea after (Nepali!) but my dad’s car broke down on the way and I’ve just got home. Have decided to treat myself to Nepali take out instead!
  5. Oh Mousey, that is just brilliant! Congratulations!
  6. I don’t often make brownies but I do have a couple that I’ve made and taste tested before. Happy to share if you’d like Cait?
  7. Wow Cait! You were busy - those all look delicious!
  8. I love that shade of purple! we’ve had a couple of school open events this weekend. I am not feeling great - fighting off a cold I think so mostly curling up on the sofa watching old festive editions of Bake Off. Planning will be later…
  9. Ah bless you, I’m ok and I make the most of my holidays. Think of it like this - I couldn’t produce as much baking or crafting as I do if I worked all the time could I? How lovely, have a wonderful time! We have a new member of SLT this term who does get masses of non-contact time but even given that seems to have much more of a balance - I keep trying to find out her secret!
  10. I don’t know how to do it any more quickly though. All the things I do are genuinely on my TDL because they need to be, not because I think they would be nice to do. My body decided for me and I fell asleep shortly after writing that post. I haven’t got up particularly early either!
  11. The first week back seems to have been pretty good. My class have grown up just that little bit and the majority are now behaving beautifully and if they don’t are responding to a raised eyebrow or the look. I have a couple of colleagues I’m a little worried about and I’m not quite sure how to help. Today has been my work day and for the first time in ages I feel like I’ve been focused and got a lot done - however I have just remembered a couple jobs which must be done this weekend - in fact one was due yesterday so I’m now having a debate with myself over whether to do them now or whether to get up early tomorrow…
  12. Oh wow! That blanket is beautiful! I’m pleased to say that I’ve managed to keep up with my temperature blanket so far…
  13. Did you post a photo of the wedding blanket Cait?
  14. When mine is done it should be mostly blues and greys. I chose a couple of pinky purples for higher temperatures. I did try all my colours next to each other to check I liked the combinations. I think the lap blankets is a great idea - I’ve sat with blankets on my knee or round my neck recently and it’s made such a difference to how warm I am.
  15. Try looking at ‘woolthreadpaint’ - lots of beautiful blankets based around granny squares!
  16. This is my blanket so far! 😉 As 52 squares is a strange number to sort into rows (it will end up being long and thin) I decided to make extra squares for days such as my birthday, Christmas, New year solstices, equinoxes etc. These will follow a pattern rather than the randomness of daily temperatures. Depending on what looks like when done I’ll create a border of some kind, maybe using all the colours and then will put it on the bed/sofa in my craft room (another, slightly more ambitious 50th year project!).
  17. Fine by me! It will have been a useful and enjoyable hour! We’re you looking for something in particular?
  18. I’m making granny squares with one round each day and am planning to do ‘join as you go’ which will hopefully keep it manageable. A friend knitted one a couple of years ago and got fed up with it as it became so heavy. I’ve chosen a non-traditional range of colours too - I’m not really a yellow/orange person and wanted it to b3 something I would use afterwards.
  19. I have been enjoying a lazy two days so far - I must work this afternoon though. I was going to do it this morning but fell asleep on the sofa snuggled beneath layers of blankets! I was going to meet someone for tea this morning but when I messaged her it turned out that she’d got her dates mixed up and had meant it to be Saturday! I finished a pair of socks last night and have started a temperature blanket which is one of my 50th year projects but that’s only a small amount of time each day so I need to find my next thing to work on.
  20. Thank you everyone! Today to be honest I have spent most of the day in a car en route home from Northumberland - half of it in a recovery truck as we broke down! Luckily most of my celebrating was done yesterday - out for a cosy meal. My sister-in-law baked a cake which my nieces decorated in truly memorable style (I was instructed not to look but they were doing it at the table in front of me!). My 10 year old niece had made me her own special present - a beautiful (and enormously long) finger knitted scarf. Plus we were also celebrating Lakshmi puja as part of Diwali so we had sparklers!
  21. I’m so glad you asked!
  22. I’ve never heard that at all - love finding out new sayings and phrases!
  23. Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful day!
  24. Maybe a 5km mud saunter? I’m good with mud, not so much with running. I have, though, just planned out the 50th year temperature blanket I intend to make. I have been pondering a list of 12 bakes I’ve never made before…
  25. I was pondering a set of things that I’ve never baked before like babka or macarons. I do have ‘build a gingerbread house’ on there already.
