tish501
I haven't chased anyone, even the ones that thought they were eligible, if the check was unconfirmed I left it there.......not a great attitude I know, but already enough to chase them for without anything else Soooo agree with you on this mousekeeper....got fed up of asking...the online checker was a joke...so gave up in the end...more trouble than it is worth....

lynned55
We didnt even have access to an online checker- we had to get parents to tick a box saying yes/no they were eligible for free school meals. Yes, I know- no free school meals etc, etc .... anyway long story short but we have applied for 8 children, all of whom are leaving in July for school and we have no confirmation of whether they are eligible until mid June. lynned55
Hmmm....this hasn't been thought through has it? Is it ever? The money really wont benefit the children it is intended for. They are intending to pay this with the balance of our funding in the first week of June but we wont get a breakdown of the funding until at least mid-June so

Guest
I don't even think it targets the children that could use a 'little' extra one way or another You're so right. I have children who could do with some extra support, or whatever, but they aren't in receipt of the EYPP as their families are financially ok. (And many times, the children who ARE in receipt of EYPP are doing just fine, and their families are also financially 'ok' due to the amount of benefits they receive, but that's whole other thread... )
lsp
Our LA is not paying any EYPP money we are due until the following term - Sept! So not only do we not know yet who is eligible but we wont get paid until most of the children have moved onto primary school. We are not in a financial position that allows us to pay out money to put anything in place for this term's children. Luckily Ofsted inspected us 6 months ago so we have not got to worry about trying to justify our position. I think the only way it will work for us is to use the summer term funding for the autumn term and carry on like that - hoping the numbers do not vary too much! bubblejack
Yes I am in the same position as you HiAPreschool. Its the children whose parents are just missed out on the 2 year funding that need extra help. Parents could only afford to pay for 1 session. There is a big difference between them and the 3 year olds who have been attending for 15 hours since the age of 2.
GFCCCC
They are certainly making us jump through hoops for our 53p !!

fimbo
our parents were required to put their NI number on the funding form this term , their eligibility was then checked by the funding team , as all our funding is now entered by us online -I can see who has EYPP. ( Only 3 children) As far as im aware we've had no stipulations as to how we must spend / track this extra funding ? unless I've missed it ( Its been a rather trying 6 months !) can anyone in Gloucestershire enlighten me ? Fredbear
Now that seems like a better way to do it Fimbo. Our parent/carers had to fill in a separate form which we then entered onto the secure funding portal. Might email our LA to see if this is possible for us. Such a waste of paper, time etc. With regards to PP spend. We identified areas we felt would impact the most on identified children. It's quite a backwards way to do it as we don't know if they are in receipt of it until the second half term. So for us it was new resources for imaginative play, speech and language and art & craft. I'm sure we will be asked how this extra funding albeit (minute) has impacted on these children. I would suspect a form much like the 2yr funding one will be used. hali
You will need to track the children to evidence to Ofsted how this money has made a difference for those 3 children. :1b

Fredbear
Not here I'm afraid but I'm sure I can pm you it on my return next week. Do you not have one for your 2yr funding children. How do you show impact in your neck of the woods.
finleysmaid
Not here I'm afraid but I'm sure I can pm you it on my return next week. Thanks that would be helpful! Do you not have one for your 2yr funding children. How do you show impact in your neck of the woods. Well that's why i'm asking really ...my LEA tend to work on the principle that we get on and do things ourselves...which i'm normally quite happy about but sometimes you need a framework to work from!!! Fredbear
That's not very helpful for you though is it. I'm sure most of us already plot, track, assess in some format where our children are, but this is more about early intervention too, (closing the gap). Ofsted will certainly be looking for this information as well as our LA's I would have thought.
lynned55
But how do you show the impact it has had on children that leave for school a couple of weeks after you have received it? That's going to be kind of difficult. I wont be told until at least 12th June who has it (and that is just me assuming it will come through with the funding breakdown- so could be later) By the time I have the money and have decided what is best for them I'll be lucky to get anything in place for the last week. If I'm being really honest all of these children are doing absolutely fine and do not need any extra funding. If your LA is paying the money a term in arrears, there really isnt much you can do about that and dont feel that we should have to justify ourselves to Ofsted over it surely?
Fredbear
That's whats so ridiculous about the whole delivery and timing of payments. As fellow practitioners we all want to do the best for all the children in our care don't we, Irrespective of whether we are entitled to an extra 53 pence per hour or not. I for one would like to see a greater increase in the general funding rate and then allow us as professionals to make the decision on how it is spent. Sorry rant over.

SueJ
Ok - so now time to stoke the fire a little - are you all ready!!!! When we had our EYPP briefing I asked whether we had to claim it because much as I want the best for the children if I put my business head on the actual costs in time to run all the applications etc. through the checker, track the spend to prove it is narrowing the gap etc. are most likely to be more than the revenue received. My LA Early years lead (bless her) couldn't understand why you wouldn't want to claim it until it was gently explained to her that pvi settings cannot keep on doing stuff that costs more than the revenue received!! She did however fire off an email to the DFE about whether we have to claim it and their response was: ‘There is no legal obligation on a provider to apply for the EYPP, however if they decide not to apply they will be denying themselves a possible source of extra income to support the disadvantaged children in their care. (Currently there are ongoing discussions to see if when Ofsted make their judgements about how they are supporting disadvantaged children they will or won’t take into account the fact that they have not applied for all the funding they may be entitled to). ‘ HOWEVER - never one to turn any funds away this term I have given it a go. I have 51 children on roll - 4 qualify for EYPP - 3 will be leaving this term. This means that we will get approx £400 this term - it took me over 3 hours to run all 51 forms through the checker and apparently the cost of EYPP administration can be taken out of this. HOWEVER HOWEVER !!!!! - EYPP is apparently classed as income so those of us who are sole traders or businesses will have to pay tax on this - obviously my wages are phenomenally high and I pay tax at 20% (not 40% ) so this £400 income is actually only going to net £320 (e.g., 42.4p per hour - if you happen to fall into the 40% tax bracket it will only be worth 31.8p per hour) this term before I even start deducing costs and apportioning it - is it really worth it
tish501
What is a 'block allowance'? (please - I've never heard of that term) Hi LoubyLou,...here in Suffolk(where we are well looked after)....we get a block allowance 3 times a year with our funding....which is different depending on your setting...if you are in school premises lot less...as not high insurance or Ofsted fee....if you are PVI like us.....Insurance of over £2000...Ofsted £220...they pay me £3300 a year....so £1100 each term to meet these high expenses....thought all county LEAs paid it...??
