Check Your Bits Time :-)

Well, I can hardly believe it, but 4 whole years have passed since I was daignosed with Breast Cancer. Yes, FOUR whole years!! So, in honour of the occasion, can I please remind you all that today is annual 'check your bits day'! Ladies..........breasts; and gentlemen your breast area and your dangly bits. Not my intention to cause any offence, but I am full of joie de vivre at still being here and I'd like all of you to be here to celebrate my fifth anniversary next year.............hence the reminder! It only takes a few minutes and you can do it while you have your shower or bath, while everything is nice and warm. Don't forget armpits and groins........all those little nooks where your lymph glands are, and don't feel silly...............just DO it. Anything you aren't sure of?? Then get to your GP asap. Hope to see you all this time next year :),

congrats on four years! It must be a great feeling :D

you were my inspiration to get a lump checked out - fortunately it ended up being nothing but by the end of all the people who needed to see or feel I have overcome my prudishness and am happy to flash without embarrassment (for professionals of course!)

Here's to many years ahead <wine glass emoticon!>

Best wishes for good news for your son too Inge

Thanks narnia - warm congratulations on your fantastic news and many thanks for your timely reminder.

Have checked my own bits...just wondered, in the interest of public service is it okay to check others...ie: Johnny Depp...

great reminder especially for the men in our lives who tend to check less than we do.

narnia and inge - congratulations to you both - :0) x

Weird innit cos they seem to 'adjust' themselves an awful lot!! Shows they no good at multitasking!!

Two days before having a routine mammogram two months ago I found a lump ( after reading Narnia's reminder to check ) and mentioned it to the radiographer who marked it for attention. After waiting till last week for a result I went to my GP to chase it. She checked it and was a little concerned and referred me to the local breast screening unit. On Saturday the mammogram came back clear. However I was told to still go to the unit yesterday for an ultrasound. Unfortunately a lump rather like a paint splat appeared on the screen with another beside it. A couple of biopsies have been taken and we now await the result. My word of warning here is that if you have a mammogram but you have a lump please don't assume all is OK and make sure you follow it up.. (Apparently my tissue is very dense so it didn't show up on the mammogram)

So please keep checking and thank you very much Narnia x

Thank you for all your good wishes. I finally heard yesterday that it is benign. I can choose to have it removed in the new year. Great news for Christmas.

The bioposy results are not back as they could take a month but the specialist fit us into the last clinic before Christmas just in case they were. He said the blood tests are back and very positive so to enjoy Christmas and not worry he would see her again in January (hopefully with the results) but he did give us a direct phone number incase she gets any more lesions. The delay is because he ordered an immunofluorescence bioposy but we are not sure what that means.

Thanks for the reminder it made me realise my smear test is now a few months overdue and it is now on my to do list for the new year :( My assistant at work had breast cancer last year and I am relieved to say she is all clear now, so to anyone currently going through it or anyone who has been through it I wish you health for 2013.
