  1. Lavinia is one of those names we don’t come across any more, isn’t it? Unless anyone has one in their group? ‘Lettuce’ is another. How anyone could name their daughter that has always puzzled me, but it was quite common in the twenties I believe
  2. Take that paintbrush out of your ear and give it back to Lavinia
  3. I wrote about this when I was doing my foundation degree in early years many moons ago! It was seen as a problem right back then, and nothing seems to be resolved yet! All children come with their own set of ‘special needs’ individual to that child, it’s when they become more complex and specific to an individual that we have to go down the route of labelling to access help and funding for extra support. Whilst that system is in place, a label is, unfortunately necessary. If it was possible to access support without a label, that would help! I can remember having a child that her parents and I were sure was autistic, it was obvious that we would need support to help her, but she had to have that official label in order for us to get help. On my course we also pondered the usage of the terms ‘disability’ and ‘dis-ability’ and whether we felt differently about the connotations of the labels. We used to use the term ‘Big Helper’ as sometimes the actual individual would change, or be absent for some reason. Someone else could then be called upon to be the ‘Big Helper ‘ for the session.
  4. That’s even more scary then!
  5. That’s the number of cases, it says
  6. Eek!
  7. Ooh I didn’t watch! What was the nub of it?
  8. Oh Sunnyday. I really feel for you. What a huge burden this has been for you - additional stress you really didn’t need. I know that feeling of being undervalued only too well, but remember that the people who really matter -your family, your staff, parents and children all completely value you - and their opinion is what really matters when you close your eyes at night. That’s the love that makes you smile and has made it worthwhile through the years. This will pass, this sour taste, breathing will become easier and your chest will feel less tight, headaches will clear. It’s temporary. What was it your son called the others? He’s right. hold your head high. We love you too, remember xxx
  9. Sounds a sensible way of dealing with it.
  10. Brilliant! Just the ammunition you need Sunnyday!
  11. Oh no! I do hope that eases soon. Maybe Mr S can be persuaded to give you a nice neck massage to get rid of done tension. I assume you’ve had a team meeting with the others. Did they have any ideas? this is where a union would be really useful. Might Morton Mitchell legal team have any ideas?
  12. It’s a truly awful situation you find yourself in ladies. Could your staff maybe open for a couple of days with those three children and then close again? Would that even be possible? I’m trying to find a way round the system, but I’m not sure there is one. Would Boris put his baby in open daycare at the moment? I think not Its actually scandalous the way that different counties are handling this - it’s not their money after all - if they don’t pay you, where does it go?
  13. I’m pleased you had a good one. love, Cait stay safe
  14. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/950600/Reported_coronavirus__COVID-19__cases_by_registered_early_years_and_childcare_settings_.csv/preview there’s this, but it hasn’t been updated since Christmas.
  15. What a great article. Hard to believe that some folk have been trying to disinfect trees etc though! 🤭
  16. Welcome to the forum x (just noticed that you posted this back in October! Sorry I missed welcoming you then)
  17. I just checked and it’s there now. 300+ so numbers coming down to October levels.
  18. I hope I’ve got it right, but if memory serves, it is Steve’s birthday today! I hope you have a fabulous day, thank you for all you are doing to help everyone in these strange times! stay safe Xx
  19. If memory serves, there’s also something about the age range of children she will be in contact with. So the school DBS is with older children.
  20. Approximate value of resources too
  21. Just followed that link, and it went up into the 800s by Christmas
  22. That, right there, is what proves them wrong, isn’t it! It’s their own statistics, so why can’t they see that? Yes, numbers may be ‘low’ to them, but to you at the coalface, it’s really not. This is unpardonable, and maybe letters to MPs with a copy of this list are in order now.
  23. Actually, it could be a perfect time to start, whilst your numbers are artificially lower and everyone is in the same boat of ‘strangeness’. It will ease them in gently, they’ll have established a core little group of children they feel secure with, so when numbers go up after half term, they shouldn’t be so anxious.
  24. Undervalued yes, but then they say that we’re so important we must be kept open - so why aren’t we having money thrown at us if we’re so vital?
