Greenfinch
I was at a meeting on Monday Just to let you know, ofsted require all new DBS holders to have the extended one ( called something like that) if after sept 1st this year In the past you could opt into the extra £13 per year, now it is compulsory It's on o website. Mouseketeer
I guess they had to claw a bit back somewhere after agreeing not to charge committee members the full fee.
finleysmaid
ok now really confused (and ofsted have changed their website so links are a bit different) Do we need an EY2....no longer seem to exist on the system ...we have been told no does anyone know if this is correct? ID check this needs to be done before application and sent first???? (by individual email with applicants name) is this correct? payment now appears to be 6.80 plus 1.30 (for me to check id???) then £13 for compulsory update is this right? Help !!!!! finleysmaid
Have you checked out these? https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dbs-update-service-applicant-guide this is just for the update service i think?
woodlands1997
We did a dbs last week through capita/ofsted. Staff member completed online, I verified docs and sent form to the capita email afterwards and then when it comes back and they have signed up to update service they will complete their ey2, she started this ey2 this morning so definitely still existed then?? Not sure bout costs as ours was £52 as staff member but the £13 update is compulsory now :-(
finleysmaid
woodlands ...are you sure you can do staff this way? (unless she is the registered person?) the costs i think for us are right as the trustees are all volunteers...where did you get your ey2 from??
finleysmaid
ah no ....no charge for update ...How much does the Update Service cost and how long will it last for? Registration lasts for 1 year and costs £13 per year (payable by debit or credit card only). There’s no charge if you’re a volunteer.
Foreveryoung
Our trustees have a link to register to go onto site to complete EY2 this automatically generates a DBS through Ofsted which then our secretary checks documents for identity then the process can continue we have not done one though since start sept cost was £6:50. For paid staff I have done 3 in past few weeks and these have not made us use the update service as a compulsory feature either. I have a new board member who wants to be a volunteer too so she's starting her EY2 this week fingers crossed we find it easy again. Oh the joys. woodlands1997
Ah finleysmaid we are childcare on domestic sorry so that's why its different for staff as Ofsted check everyone! The ey2 is the same though I believe as gives the list of positions eg committee, living on premises etc! Ey2 by logging into ofsted online and then online applications x
thumperrabbit
It has taken us SO FAR over 4 months to do 1 committee DBS and it's still on going!!!! I am no clearer now than I was 4 months ago, don't how far into the process we are or how much further we have to go! - what makes life harder for us is we have no internet at the setting, so I have to rely on parents doing all of this at home they do a bit and then get stuck so give up, I have had the above member at my house 3 times to do 'stuff' - I'm not thick (??!!! ) but I have never experienced a system that nobody really seems to understand, and where it affects so many people but there is no step by step guide - phew, rant over but still very frustrated
Mouseketeer
I have contacted Ofsted today re committee member dbs checks, was told to do dbs before EY2, I said it was the other way around last year, she replied "yes its changed" ........so when were you going to tell us but committee members don't pay the £13.00 update fee just the process fee for volunteers, which she thought had increaded to approx. £12 ?....I'm sure we'll still be going around in circles for months to thumperrabbit
Cait
I thought that update fee was mandatory now!
Mouseketeer
not an hour ago I was told it wasn't for volunteers....but we'll see .....no hope is there

thumperrabbit
If a volunteer (committee member) lasts longer than a year (cause if I get one it takes a lot for them to escape from me ) then should they be signing up to the 'update service'??
Mouseketeer
Who knows, do they only last a year then if you don't sign up for the update service, I just thought it was so it was valid elsewhere ....and what about staff that did them when the update service was optional and didn't bother ? It's all as clear as mud
lashes2508
Ring capita if thAts who you use , very helpful. We have had problems on past for committee but not for staff, having said that , no problems this time round with committee
Guest
I know for staff it is Go to Capita Process application and pay Take id checking form to post office Send off with application Receive DBS Sign up to update service Then complete EY2 That's what I did just a few weeks ago. However I did have issues with the boxes on the EY2 form and mrs O called in for a compliance visit as nothing showed up on their system about me completing the form oO Edited October 22, 2014 by missdoofus

You do not have to have the post office check your ID ...as the registered person i can do that and you dont need an ey2 for staff.
Guest
Sorry - Precision of language I meant to just point out nursery based staff eg. the manager as opposed to committee members/ volunteers. That's the order in which I did it, we are not registered with anyone as the company wants all staff to get their own DBS via Capita and organise these things for themselves as well as keep it current (sign up for update service). This seems to be the new trend as pointed out in my safer recruitment training today with many organisations now not processing DBS applications for job applicants as it is "their data" - much like a driver's license. I did the post office check as my organisation did not have anything to do with it.

Smiles
I'm still none the wiser. We need to do checks for Committee members . My understanding EY2 completed then they're done through Capita? Where will I find to EY2 online? I thought we were no longer having to do these. HELP!
Rea
EY2 is ridiculously difficult to find online https://online.ofsted.gov.uk/OnlineOfsted/Default.aspx Follow the steps posted on the other thread http://eyfs.info/forums/topic/39936-ey2-dbs-for-committees/page-2 post 56 and it should be quite easy. We didnt have a problem doing the EY2 first but I know some people couldnt continue the application unless they'd done a DBS first so thats possibly down to luck! We do our DBS through Capita, I'm just getting the hang of it. Its fairly simple but I find it takes quite a bit of back and forth plus the log in details for applying are different to the log in details for checking the ID and you need to know all the ID possibilities so you can tell the applicants what you'll need to see. I've narrowed it down to Biometric passport, photo driving licence, bank statement not more than 3 months old, birth certificate. Most people have those these days. Have immense fun Edited November 7, 2014 by Rea

thumperrabbit
I believe my committee member did her EY2 first it lets you go so far and then you get to a point where it signposts you to Capita for DBS then once the DBS is through you finish the final stage of the EY2 - goodness knows if its right though
Guest
got to ask.... what is a EY2 ?
