  1. Hi everyone! Management System Update We are very excited to share some news about our upcoming Management System on Tapestry! This system is going to be released in phases, the first of which will be available to you this summer. You will be able to add and create bookings and generate a printable register for your custom rooms. Phase 2, which includes capacity planning, will follow shortly. The rest of the phases will be released over time and will bring extra features such as billing, invoicing and digital registers to name just a few! As with all our feature releases, this will come at no extra charge to you. If you want more of an idea of what’s to come, take a look at this preview video (Keep in mind, the look may change as development continues). Child Login webinar This month, Ben and I recorded a short webinar about Tapestry’s Child Login feature. We discussed what the feature is, how we think it could be used and what we like about it. If you’ve never heard of this feature, or just want to know more about it, the video is a great place to start. It’s up on our YouTube and you can access it directly by clicking here. Feature Focus: Reports This month’s Feature Focus is Reports. A manager can enable Reports from Control Panel > Features. You can then access Reports from the top task bar. The Reports feature gives you a list of different Report Formats that you can then add to, edit and customise. We have templates for EYFS 2021, the Two-Year check, SEND and many more. (Please note, the report formats you have access to depend on which assessment frameworks you have enabled). New Articles We have a new article on the Tapestry site this week: Outdoor Education – Past, Present and Future by Naomi Clarke explores outdoor education as an approach in the UK and exemplifies “the timeless need for nature to play a part in every child and young person’s personal and academic development.” Read the full article here. Tapestry Survey This month we have something interactive for you! We have created a short survey about teaching and learning, and professional development. We will use the findings in our articles, to support our public relations and marketing, and to inform the development of Tapestry and the Foundation Stage Forum. We would love to hear your views. To take part in the survey please follow this link.
  2. March Newsletter Hi everyone! We hope you are all enjoying the beginning of Spring. This month we have new resources, useful reminders and an exciting Feature Focus so read on for more details. Deleting and Restoring Data. Our Support team have had a number of requests recently around deleting and restoring data. So, this section will hopefully explain a bit more about how that works on Tapestry. Firstly, data is deleted from Tapestry either by you selecting it to be deleted or a whole account expiring and then later being deleted. We would never delete any data from an account unless we had explicit request to do so If your whole account expires because the renewal invoice has not been paid, then you have 90 days from your expiry date in order to pay your renewal and restore your account. If you go past this 90 day mark, your whole account will be deleted and moved to our backups for another 90 days. At this point, in order to reactivate your whole account you will need to get in touch with us via customer.service@eyfs.info from a “manager” or the FSF account holder email address. To restore a deleted account from our backups is a manual process performed by our developers, which means it comes with an extra charge. It costs £30 (excluding VAT) to restore a deleted account. If you exceed 180 days from the day of your account’s expiry date then the whole account and all the data therein will be permanently deleted. It’s also worth mentioning your yearly renewal invoices are generated automatically 30 days before your expiry date and all “managers” on Tapestry can view, download and pay for invoices via the Tapestry Control Panel. This 90 – 180 day rule also applies to everything else you can delete/restore on Tapestry yourself. The most common example would be a child’s profile. As soon as you delete a child from your Tapestry account you’ll notice it enters an “awaiting deletion” stage with a 90 day countdown (don’t worry – they don’t count towards your account limit anymore. Only “active” children take up spaces). Within this initial 90 day “Awaiting Deletion” period, you can restore that child yourself if you need to. This tutorial will show you how: After that 90 day period, they are deleted and moved to our backups. Similarly to how it works with accounts, they can be restored from the backups within another 90 days. Prices for restoring child accounts can vary and that will be explained when you contact Customer Support. Again, 180 days after you delete the account it will be permanently deleted and no recovery will be possible. Hopefully this offers some clarification but if you’re ever unsure about anything, you can always contact the support email and we’ll be happy to help! New CPD Course: An Introduction to Ableism. This month we released another free course on Tapestry CPD. Written by Tapestry’s SEND advisor, Stephen Kilgour, and Autistic speech and language therapist, Emily Lees, this course is called “An introduction to Ableism.” It’s aimed at anyone working in education but would actually be helpful for everyone, regardless of their job. This course will introduce you to ableism and its impact, helping you as you reflect on your practice. Access this course along with all our others, here. New Infographics. If you haven’t explored our Infographics library yet I would thoroughly recommend it! We have helpful guides on all sorts of topics aimed at both parents and educators. Our newest additions are designed for parents and carers, and they are a kind of “jargon buster”. They help unpack some of the words and phrases used in the sphere of early years. You can find these new ones, and all our others here. Celebrating Books 2022 We have a new section on our info site dedicated to Celebrating Books this year. Take a look at it here. You will find a few short videos made by some wonderful contributors reading snippets of one of their favourite books. Definitely worth a look if you are on the hunt for more quality texts for your bookshelf. Feature Focus: Cherry Garden. This month’s Feature Focus is Cherry Garden! Designed to help you support children with learning differences and disabilities, the Cherry Garden Branch Maps were created by Ofsted Outstanding specialist school - Cherry Garden. Development doesn’t necessarily look the same for all children, and the Cherry Garden framework offers a unique approach to monitoring and supporting your children in early years and Key Stage 1 and 2. You can celebrate progress and engage children and families with their learning through the unique interactive orchard, which comes alive with every observation – so you can watch it grow together. Cherry Garden is available to all Tapestry users and managers can enable it on your account by going to Control Panel > Settings > Assessments. This tutorial will also help you with getting everything set up: https://eyfs.info/forums/topic/51203-setting-up-and-using-the-cherry-garden-framework New Articles This Month We have a new article on Tapestry.info this month by writer and educator, Naomi Clarke. Naomi discusses the importance of taking an intersectional approach to outdoor learning and what we need to consider in our settings. You can read the full article here. EYFS 2021 on Tapestry Lastly, a quick reminder that we have a page on our website dedicated to all things EYFS 2021 on Tapestry. If you have any questions around that, this page will likely have the answer, but as always we are available on customer.service@eyfs.info for any other questions.
  3. Hi everyone, Just a few things to tell you about this month, so read on for more details. Featured CPD Course: EYFS 2021 On Tapestry This month we would like to focus one of our free courses currently on Tapestry CPD. “The EYFS 2021 on Tapestry” course explains how we implemented the new EYFS (which became statutory in 2021) and the new non-statutory guidance documents (Development Matters and Birth to five Matters) on to Tapestry. The course takes you through what the different flag sets are and how to use them as well as how the different monitoring screens work. This course is perfect for new users but even if you’ve been using the new EYFS on Tapestry since last year it might teach you something you didn’t know! Business Cloud’s Ed Tech 50 Tapestry was very proud to be included in Business Cloud’s Ed Tech 50 choices for 2022 among other fantastic ed-tech providers. If you’d like to view our entry on the list, you can do so here. The Accident Tracking Screen This month we released a new monitoring screen for accident forms. If you don’t already know, the accident forms can be created within the Care Dairy feature. There is also an option to have Accidents only if you prefer. This new screen gives you greater control over your accident forms on Tapestry. You can filter, view accidents forms from a certain period, and download them in bulk from this screen. The tutorial will show you how it all works. BBC News Article We were happy to be featured along with other online journals in a recent article by Katherine Latham for the BBC. The piece explores how early years settings are using online journals to connect with families, nurture parental engagement, and inform their provision to support children’s development. You can read the article here. That’s it for this month. As always, if you need to reach us you can do so by emailing customer.service@eyfs.info
  4. January Newsletter Hello everyone and a happy new year from all of us at Tapestry HQ. There are lots of new things to tell you about this month so please read on for more details. Tapestry CPD We are excited to introduce our newest initiative: Tapestry CPD. Available for all full staff and managers on your account, Tapestry CPD brings you courses to support your professional learning, as well as training to help you with using Tapestry in your setting. In collaboration with sector experts, such as Siren Films, our experienced education and support teams are creating engaging and interactive content that you can access at a time that works best for you. We would love to hear what you think of it. A Beginners Guide to Ableism Firstly, I want to draw your attention to this new document: A Beginner’s Guide to Ableism. This has been created by autistic Speech and Language Therapist Emily Lees, a speaker at our last Tapestry Education Conference. This resource has been designed to help settings to have important and much-needed conversations about ableism. The document is completely free and you can download a copy from our website. Price changes On March 1st our prices will be increasing slightly. Please see information below on the exact new figures. If your renewal invoice is due to be generated after March 1st, it will use this new pricing structure. If your renewal invoice is due to be generated before March 1st, it will use the current pricing structure. You can add The Engagement Model to Tapestry using Flags (see our tutorial on adding bespoke frag sets) and we have a separate assessment framework for The Pre-Key Stage Standards (you can turn that on from the ‘Assessments’ section of your control panel). If you are still using the P Scales and you wish to keep a copy of any of your assessment data please make sure to download it before the 21st of February. You can do that by exporting a PDF and/or CSV of the Summative Assessment Individual and Group View screens (found in the Tracking section of your account), and by exporting PDF journals for the children with P Scale assessments. Just follow our PDF export tutorial and make sure to include P Scale assessments. This will not affect any other assessment framework on your account and all of your observations will still exist – it will just be the P Scale assessments themselves that will disappear (as though you’d just turned off P Scales). Changes to Cherry Garden In the light of more recent research, Cherry Garden school have made minor alterations to some of their branch maps. This means we are updating the framework on Tapestry as well to reflect those changes. If you’ve been using the Cherry Garden framework on Tapestry, these changes may have an effect on the assessments you have made up to now, so I thoroughly recommend reading this post which details what is changing and when It’s changing. Android update available There’s an update available for our Android app! The update includes a few bug fixes so please ensure you update your app via the PlayStore as soon as possible. It will be version 4.0.6. The APPG Section of our Forum Lastly, you may already be aware that Tapestry is one of the sponsors for the APPG for Childcare and Early Education. To keep you up to date with news from the APPG, we have a space on our Forum with information about it. One of our newest forum posts is all about how you can attend an APPG meeting – they are open to anyone and are currently held over Zoom. The APPG meetings have speakers talking on a different topic each time. It’s a chance to see how MPs are informed about the early years sector and how the process of raising awareness of early years provision works. If you would like to attend the next APPG meeting, details on how to sign up can be found in this forum post. Best wishes, The Tapestry Team.
  5. Hi everyone! Just a short (and slightly earlier than usual) newsletter this month. Communicating Progress with SLT Webinar and Article Firstly, we have released some extra resources this month: A webinar and an accompanying article both aimed at practitioners. They explain how you might show progress with the new EYFS on Tapestry and how you can communicate this to your SLT. Another helpful article Another article published on the Tapestry website this month was from Anya, one of our Education Advisors. In this article, Anya explains how you can use your observations and reflections in conjunction with the Areas of Concern screen. If you’ve been wondering how to get the most out of this new screen, or if you’re interested in using Reflections more effectively then do take a look. Product Support Reminder Just a quick reminder that our Product Support team will be working 9 – 5 every weekday over the festive period. Bank holidays not included. If you need to reach us about anything, please email customer.service@eyfs.info. Ed tech awards We are delighted to be recognised in the 2021/2022 EdTech 50 Awards Yearbook – ‘a celebration of the people, products and organisations shaping the use of education technology across the UK’ Feature Focus You can enable an “additional information” box to use on your observations by going to Control Panel > Settings > Observations. This box will appear underneath the “notes” section and can be used for whatever you wish. This was initially created as a space to add information that wasn’t needed in the notes section. By default, this ‘additional information field’ can’t be seen by relatives but you can manage that permission from User Permissions > Relatives > Observations. Wishing everyone safe and happy holidays.
  6. Hi, @Julie_Twist Thanks for letting us know you are interested! We are working hard on it, but as Alex said I'm afraid we can't give time frames on new releases. I will update this thread with any developments. But if you'd rather one of us email you directly when it's ready, do send us a quick email on customer.service@eyfs.info and we can pop your name on the list :) Let us know if you have any other questions. Best wishes, Jack
  7. This month (January 2021) we have the APPG for Childcare and Early Education (CEE) campaign to celebrate early years educators and the hugely important work they do. The campaign aims to raise the profile of the work done by early years professionals, to ensure politicians and policy makers understand the vital role the early years workforce has in children’s lives and futures, and to gain the respect our early years educators deserve. The campaign week will run from 24th-28th January 2022 – keep a look out for the hashtag #WeAreEducators As part of this week, the APPG are inviting educators and providers from the sector to record a short video clip talking about their role and the vital work that they do in providing education to the under-5s and support to their families. The video should be a maximum of a minute long and will be shared across social media. If your video is longer than a minute, please provide a sound bite and link to where it is uploaded (e.g. YouTube/website). Your video would need to arrive by the evening of Sunday 16th January - if you have questions or would like to send us any content, you can email @Childcare and early education APPG or you can tweet us @APPGEarlyYears. Some of the things you may want to talk about in the video might be: · Examples of the impact on the life chances of the children you work with · The importance of retaining and progressing staff · Celebrating the important role you and the sector play in the lives of under-5s and their families We hope you will get involved and join us in celebrating and emphasising the crucial role that early years educators provide. Also, if you use Twitter, feel free to join in with our Twitter Storm! This takes place at 11am on Monday 24th of January to kick the week off. If you’d like to participate, just tweet the following at that time on Monday the 24th: "I am supporting #ChildcareandEarlyEducationWeek to celebrate the work of early years educators who do their utmost to ensure all children have the best start in life #WeAreEducators”
  8. This post is to make you aware of the next Childcare and Early Education APPG meeting on Tuesday 25th at 2pm that will be held on Zoom. The title of this meeting is “SEND in the Early Years provision.” More detail on this event can be found in the attached graphic. If you would like to attend (and we sincerely hope you do!) please email childcareandearlyeducationappg@connectpa.co.uk for more details and to receive a link.
  9. Hi, @A Williams! What would you like to know in regards to assessment tracking? I'd be happy to help! :)
  10. TEC Recording Earlier this month we hosted our 5th Tapestry Education Conference. This TEC was reflecting on the importance of CPD in the early years and we were delighted to hear from our 3 speakers: Iram Siraj, Annie Richardson and Emily Lees. If you’d like to watch the recording of this event, you can do so on our website, and we also have recordings of our previous TECs here. Dr Julian Grenier and Ofsted Webinar This month we helped facilitate a webinar from the Early Years Adopter 2020 Facebook Group. Dr Julian Grenier was joined by Wendy Ratcliff HMI and Gill Jones HMI, with special appearance by Rahima Begum, to discuss Development Matters and the changes to the EYFS. It was a very informative event which answered a lot of frequently asked questions. You can watch the recording on our YouTube channel. 2 year check report We have released a new report format: EYFS 2021 Two Year Check. As you might expect, this is an updated version of the 2 year check report format you may have seen previously on Tapestry, but this one is now in line with the new framework. This report format will be available automatically, provided you already have the EYFS 2021 flag set enabled. You can find it by clicking ‘Reports’ in the top task bar and then ‘EYFS 2021 Two Year Check’ from the table on the right-hand side. Articles this Month We have two new articles on Tapestry.info this month. Firstly, “An Interview with Fliss James, the project lead of ‘What to expect in the Early Years Foundation Stage: a guide for parents’” by Caroline Vollans. And secondly “The Power of Parent Observations” by Kate Cowan and Rosie Flewitt. #EYFS2021OnTapestry This month we are running a Twitter and Facebook campaign using #EYFS2021OnTapestry. Use this hashtag on both Twitter and Facebook to search through helpful resources and tips about implementing the revised EYFS on Tapestry and in your provision. You can see our twitter posts so far here. Feature Focus This week’s Feature Focus is Activities! The Activities feature was designed to help educators and families with home and independent learning. You can create bespoke activities on Tapestry which children and relatives can then access from their own accounts. They can also reply directly to your activity with an observation of their own. Not only can you create your own from scratch and keep them organised in your “Activities Collection.” You also have access to the Tapestry Activities Catalogue. This has over 120 pre-made activities covering a range of topics, ages, and stages of development. These activities are made by members of the Education Team here at Tapestry and we add new ones on the 1st of every month. If you want to give the Activities feature a try, you can enable it by going to Control Panel > Features. That’s all for this month. Best wishes from the Tapestry team
  11. Hello everyone! We hope you’ve had a great October. TEC We’re happy to announce our next Tapestry Education Conference. The theme for the event is Reflecting on CPD in the Early Years, at a time when the need for quality CPD is in the limelight. If you want to attend live so you have a chance to submit questions to our panelists, then please sign up here. It’s on the 4th of November from 6 to 8 p.m. There you will also find information about the three speakers at the event: Iram Siraj, Annie Richardson and Emily Lees. These conferences are completely free, online, and available to watch on our website and YouTube channel after the live event. You can see some of our previous TECs here Recordings and downloadable versions of the presentations can be used to support your CPD. New Articles We have two new articles on the Tapestry site this month. The first by our upcoming TEC panelist Annie Richardson is all about the importance of knowledge of child development to our early years practice. The second is by one of our previous TEC co-hosts, Liz Pemberton, who reflects on a year of anti-racist discourse in the Early Years sector. BACS Payments We are aware that some remittances sent to bacs@eyfs.info didn't find their way through to us as a result of a Microsoft quarantining issue. If your payment has been made in the last month but your account has not been updated accordingly, please send the remittance to bacs@eyfs.info again, marked 'copy remittance', so that we can check through our unallocated payments and ensure there’s no interruption to your service. Feature Focus: Reflections. Reflections has been on Tapestry for quite a while now, but we wanted to draw attention to it again in conjunction with the way the new EYFS works on Tapestry. If you aren’t familiar with Reflections, we recommend having a quick look at our Feature Page which will tell you a bit more about it. If you want to get set up and start using Reflections right away, these two tutorials will help: Setting up Reflections Adding a Reflection Reflections can support you and your team as we all settle into the new EYFS Framework. With the move away from collecting data towards a greater focus on a narrative for children’s development you can use Reflections as a space to reflect on children’s individual journeys. Reflections can link directly to the Areas of Concern screen, so that along with your observations, your reflections can help guide your practice and planning for your children. If you have any questions about Reflections, you can email us on customer.service@eyfs.info That’s all for this month. Best wishes from the Tapestry teamfile:///C:/Users/Jack/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image008.png
  12. Hi, everyone. I hope your September has gone well and you’ve had a positive start to the new academic year. Whether you are in a school or nursery setting, many of you will have been welcoming new children this month. I have a few announcements and a few resources this month, which I think will be really helpful, so read on for more details. Bespoke Flags I’m excited to announce another new feature has been released on Tapestry! Bespoke Flags allows you to create your own flag sets for whatever you like. This will give you more control over your monitoring. Just like our existing flags sets, any flags you make can be added to Observations and Reflections. And you can use the Flag picker to monitor your use of these custom flags more carefully. We have two tutorials to get you started with this new feature but if you have any other questions, you can always reach us on customer.service@eyfs.info Bespoke flags - adding and editing flag sets Bespoke flags - draft flags The Tapestry Webinar. This month, one of our resident Tapestry experts and education advisors – Ben – hosted another webinar all about Tapestry and the new EYFS. It was streamed live on our Facebook and Zoom, but if you couldn’t make it for the live version, you can find the recording of it on our YouTube. Ben covered lots of topics that we have seen cropping up recently: baselining, 2 year checks, how the flags work, monitoring high achievers, monitoring progress, to name a few! I would highly recommend giving the webinar a watch. It would also make a great training resource for staff if you are looking for some free CPD. Also, Ben collected the most common questions from the webinar and has created some FAQs to support you as you move forward with the new EYFS. Our Forum Post While on the topic of the new EYFS, I want to remind you again of our Forum post. This post compiles all the resources we have created over the past few months in relation to the new framework, the new Development Matters and Birth to 5 matters documents and how Tapestry adapted to fit these changes. The EYFS and the ELGs If you don’t have time to look through all the information on that forum post, I would like to discuss one thing in more detail which has been asked about a lot this month. Lots of people have looked at our new EYFS 2021 flag set and have been surprised to see “old” aspects. For example, PD still includes “Moving and Handling” and “Health and Self Care” and it doesn’t show “Gross Motor Skills” and “Fine Motor Skills”. So why is this? Well, The EYFS 2021 flags allows you to select areas from the new Development Matters; these are the seven areas of learning we are all familiar with: Communication and Language; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. The aspects within those areas are from the Birth to 5 Matters guidance document. These are not related to the new ELGs from the updated EYFS Framework. Some of the Birth to 5 Matters aspect titles (such as the PD ones I mentioned earlier) just happen to be the same as what the old ELGs used. The authors of the above guidance were very clear that settings should not be using the ELGs throughout the year and that they are just an assessment point at the end of the Reception year. You can review these guidance documents in the Reference section or download the full guidance materials from here: Development Matters 2021 Birth to 5 Matters If you were looking for the ELG flags, they are there under the ELG2021 flagset. However, if you plan on completing your EYFSP on Tapestry this year, you may benefit more from using the ELG2021 assessment framework as it will then feed into your EYFSP. You can enable that by going to Control Panel > Settings > Assessments > ELG2021. Controlling which assessment frameworks are enabled on your account Again, the ELGs won't help your monitoring of the child's development throughout the year and should only be used towards the end of the Reception year. While we are on the topic, a recent update means you can toggle off Birth to 5 Matters altogether if you are only using Development Matters. Doing this will remove the aspect flags, the reference material for Birth to 5 and its associated sections within the Thoroughness screen. If you already have your EYFS 2021 flag set enabled, you can toggle Bto5 off by going to Control Panel > Settings > Flags > “Configure” next to EYFS 2021. Here’s the tutorial which shows you in more detail. https://eyfs.info/forums/topic/53800-enabling-and-disabling-birth-to-five-matters-flags-and-reference-materials/ #NewAcademicYearOnTapestry If you are on Twitter, keep an eye out for #NewAcademicYearOnTapestry - we are tweeting out loads of tips and tricks for Tapestry users which are particularly helpful this time of year. Free Training Lastly, if you are looking for some SLCN/EYFS training, Launchpad for Literacy founder, Kirstie Page, is delivering some free virtual sessions through Orgill English Hub this term. This training is open to all and is applicable for schools and settings. There will be a very strong emphasis on embedding interventions into Targeted Practice. You can find out more in this post on the FSF. That’s all from me. Take care everyone and I’ll talk to you next month. Best wishes, Jack
  13. Hi, everyone! I hope you are all well. Just a few things from me this month so read on for more details. Tapestry Customer Support As September is our busiest time of the year (as we know it is for most of you too!), our response time to support tickets may be slightly longer than usual. We always aim to answer queries as quickly as possible, so rest assured we will reply to you as soon as we can. To speed up how quickly we are able to assist you, please make sure that you contact us from the account holder’s or registered manager’s email address, especially if the query relates to your account. Please also give us as much detail as possible in your first email about the problem you are facing. This will help reduce the time it takes us to find a solution for you. If you have a finance or subscription question, please include your most recent invoice number as this will allow us to locate your account much faster. Managers can find the invoice number from the first page of the Tapestry Control Panel. Your Inactive Children Do you have “inactive” children on your account? If so, now is the perfect time to review whether you still need those children’s profiles on your account. The “inactive” status is mainly used for when a child leaves your setting, but you’re expecting them back again soon. Them being inactive means you can simply “reactivate” and carry on as normal when they return. If you do want to keep the inactive children, please check your data protection policy with regards to keeping data on children who have left. If you do have inactive children and you know you won’t need their account any longer, please delete them instead. A manager can delete an inactive child by going to Control Panel > Manage Children > Use the filter buttons at the top to show “inactive” children > Click the cog menu next to the name and select “delete”. You can delete multiple children by using the tick boxes down the right hand side. Tapestry Encyclopedia Updates In light of the updated EYFS and the changes that go along with it, we have made some updates of our own to the Tapestry Encyclopedia. These pages bring together all our tutorials, videos, webinars, podcasts, articles and documents and organises them into easy to navigate sections. If you want to know more about setting up and using the new EYFS framework, start here. If you want to know more about monitoring and the new framework then go here. We also have a very comprehensive forum post which answers the FAQs in regards to the new EYFS. This also links to loads of helpful resources which I would recommend! You can find it here. Infographics I know how busy the end of a school year can be and sometimes it’s hard to remember all the little jobs that need to be done. We have created a few “end of the year” and “start of the year” to-do lists which may help keep track of the different things you may need to do on Tapestry. They are with our other infographics and you can download them all here. New Articles on the FSF Another month means another batch of fantastic articles published on the FSF. We have part three of Helen’s “Recording Learning, Not Tracking Progress” series. An article about writing in the early years by Varinder Kaur Johal. And, for our Primary section, an article by Kirstie Page titled “Speech, Language and Communication Development in Key Stage 1”. That’s all from me this month. We are wishing you all a happy start in September and if you need any help from us you can email customer.service@eyfs.info as always. Best wishes, Jack
  14. Hi, everyone. I hope you managed to stay cool through those hot days this July and[SK1] you are all expecting a restful and well-earned summer break. Just a few things from me this month so read on for more info. The New Flags Firstly, as a lot of you have already seen you can now enable the new EYFS 2021 flag set (and ELG 2021 if you’re in Reception) in preparation for September. You can enable any of the flag sets by going to Control Panel > Flags. But give this tutorial a read for more information on the EYFS 2021 set specifically. - Setting up EYFS 2021 (formerly Development Matters 2020) Flags are now visible on both the Android and iOS apps, but you must ensure they are the most up-to-date versions. If you are still using Tapestry Classic, you will need to download our newer app (Tapestry Mobile with the colourful logo) in order to access the flags as well as other improvements and features. This forum post goes into more detail on the changes we have made and what this means for you, your setting and your provision. The Areas of Concern Screen Explained. Speaking of the new EYFS, we have a few new monitoring screens which go alongside the new flags. My colleague Ben and I recorded another video recently where we look at the Areas of Concern screen in a bit more detail and breakdown some of the questions we have seen popping up. You can see the video on our YouTube channel here. Product Support Just a quick reminder that our product support team here at Tapestry HQ runs as normal through the summer holidays. So, should you need to get hold of us during your break, you can email customer.service@eyfs.info whenever you need. Our working hours are 9 – 5 every weekday. However, we won't be running our online training sessions between the 1st of September to the 17th of October. This is our busiest time of year so we prioritise answering support tickets. Infographics. Have you ever visited our infographics page? If not, I’d thoroughly recommend having a look. We have over a dozen resources aimed at settings, parents and staff on a whole range of topics: End of Year To-Do lists, a guide to the new EYFS, The Why and How of Adding Observations, and more. You can see the full set here. #ReclaimPlayfulness This summer, Tapestry is collaborating with Learning With Parents, a charity focused on empowering parents to become involved with their children’s learning. We’ve gotten together to promote playing in our Summer of Play campaign (under the hashtag #ReclaimPlayfulness). We have created some resources that give ideas for playful activities parents can do with their children this summer. Some of the areas they cover are “physical”, “story” and “creative” among others. You can read more about the campaign and download the resources here. Quick Tip If you are adding new relatives onto your Tapestry account, or will be soon, here’s a few tips which might help. After you have added the relatives to your account (either individually or in bulk), you can check their “status” by going to Control Panel > Manage Relatives: Adding relatives individually Adding relatives in bulk via CSV (spreadsheet) file · Active – this means they have a password already and should be able to log in as normal. They either set their own password via the welcome email, or you set one for them when adding them to the account. · Activating – this means you have sent the activation email to them but they still need to interact with that email to set a password. It’s worth telling them the email may have gone to their spam folder. · Not Activated – this means they have either not been sent the activation email yet, or they have been sent one and it has now expired. They have not yet set a password successfully and won’t be able to log in yet. If any relatives are in the “not activated” stage, don’t worry! You can send them another activation email simply by clicking the cog menu next to their name > Retry activation. On the following page, you will see a few options but the top one will allow you to send them a new activation email. It’s also worth double checking the email address for the relative is correct. Payments If you wish to pay for Tapestry by cheque or BACs please can we remind you: Cheques should be made payable to ‘The Foundation Stage Forum Ltd’ and NOT Tapestry or the early years foundation stage forum. Also, please note that our business address changed 2 years ago. If you need to send a cheque, the address is The Foundation Stage Forum Ltd, WaterCourt, 65 High Street, Lewes, BN7 1XG BACS – we moved our service provider for our banking in October 2019 and our bank is now HSBC sort code 40 18 22 / Account no 42445565 Our old bank account with Lloyds will be shut soon so payments made to that account in error will not be processed. If you need further information, please email the finance team on bacs@eyfs.info If you do not deal with finance in your setting, please ensure this information is passed to the finance team so they can make sure their records are up to date. That’s all from me. Again, have a lovely summer break everyone and talk to you again in August. Take care, Jack
  15. Hi @steatheredge! Thanks for getting in touch. With the new system, making Observations should become quicker because all you need to do is make your Observation as normal with the notes, pictures etc that you want, then simply "flag" the area of learning this observation pertains to (all of this can be done on the apps. Flags are available on the newest versions of the app so make sure they are up to date if you aren't seeing the flags). So you no longer have to scroll though, assign an age band, tick a statement, choose a refinement etc because all of that is gone. Also, there is no obligation or expectation to create a reflection every time you make an observation, that would certainly make things more long winded! Making reflections in general is also purely optional. It's simply a tool to help you organise your thoughts, extend conversations to others and keep a record of what you are doing to help improve things. I would make reflections on things when I am actually sitting down and thinking about the "concerns" "no concerns" "review" parts. But I wouldn't be doing this every day either! Do this whenever you feel is necessary and will be helpful for you and the children. If you haven't already, I'd recommend giving this video a watch. Ben and I discuss how we would use the AoC screen and we talk about some of the things you have mentioned in your post - I hope that helps :)
  16. Hi, @mrsbat It makes perfect sense! Allow me to explain a bit further. First of all, it sounds as if you are still using the old Development matters / EYFS system. - While we are still keeping all of this on Tapestry for the foreseeable future, it obviously becomes outdated this September with the implementation of the new EYFS and new Development Matters / Birth to 5 Matters guidance docs Let me tell you a bit more about the new system we have developed for the new EYFS - (given what you said about tick-lists, I think you might like this way better!) Tapestry now makes greater use of the "flag" system for this updated framework and you can read more about how to enable it in this tutorial: Setting up EYFS 2021 In short, instead of selecting an area, then age band and then ticking off statements within that age band, you now only have the option to select the 'flag' that relates to that area of learning. You will also notice a section for reference material. This updates depending on the areas that you have selected, and if you have already selected a child, the age of the child will also determine which reference material you see first. This reference material section will show you information from both non-statutory guidance documents (Development Matters and Birth to 5 Matters) as well as other helpful information from other sources. This means you can make the choice of which information to follow and help guide your practice. This tutorial will help you understand how to use the new guidance in greater detail: Using the new EYFS 2021 framework We have also released the 'Areas of Concern' screens and the 'Thoroughness' screens which work alongside these flags. EYFS 2021 - Areas of Concern (Guided View) EYFS 2021 - Areas of Concern (Group View) EYFS 2021 - Thoroughness Screens This forum post goes into more detail on the changes we have made and what this means for you, your setting and your provision. All that being said, if you do want to carry on using the old age bands / refinements system, then the Age band tracker screen or the individual comparison screens would be best, based on what you are wanting to see :)
  17. Not a silly question at all! Essentially enabling that EYFS 2021 flag set gives you the choice between the new Bto5 and the new Development Matters. The aspects I mentioned earlier are only relevant to Bto5 because the new DM doesn't include aspects. So, if you do want to use just the new DM - enable the flag set as above, but ignore the aspects and just flag the areas. All the original stuff for developments matters (the screens, the age bands etc) is all still there. But for the new system, we do have some new monitoring screens for you to use. Here are the tutorials we have on those which might be helpful! EYFS 2021 - Areas of Concern (Guided View) EYFS 2021 - Areas of Concern (Group View) EYFS 2021 - Thoroughness Screens I hope that helps! :)
  18. Hi, @Chokshi87 Thanks for getting in touch! When you enable the EYFS 2021 flag set by going to Control Panel > Settings > Flags you will see it appear on your Observations as "EYFS 2021" Clicking on that Flag Set will show you the seven areas of learning, the aspects within those areas are the aspects included in the Birth to 5 Matters guidance, so these are the ones you can use if you are using Bto5 Matters as your guidance of choice this year! I hope that makes sense :)
  19. Hi! OK great - the EYFS 2021 flag set is the one the feeds directly into the Area of Concern screen. So when you are on the guided or group view, and you are deciding your judgment for each area of learning, you should be able to click the Observation link and it will bring up all the observations you have flagged with that area. You can then review the observations you have made and decide whether or not you are happy with how that child is doing and where they are at the moment. Does that make sense?
  20. Hi, @BrenchleyBear! I hope you're well :) Have you seen all the available flag sets we have on Tapestry yet? If not, you can see them by going to Control Panel > Settings > Flags. If you mean flagging an observation so it feeds directly to the Areas of Concern screen, then you will need to use the Flag set called "EYFS 2021". For reflections, you can actually link a reflection directly to an Observation already. When you are on the browser version, if you scroll to the bottom of the Observation you will see 4 buttons where you can link various other things! I hope that helps! Jack
  21. June Newsletter Hi, everyone. I hope you’re all well. We’ve got lot to tell you about this month so here we go! TEC Earlier this month we held our fourth Tapestry Education Conference. This one focused on parental engagement and we heard from speakers Jamel Carly, Suma Din and Janet Goodall (EdD), with guest host Tom Harbour from Learning with Parents. If you didn’t manage to join us for the live event, don’t worry! You can watch the full recording and download any supporting materials here. Android and Fire Update Earlier this month you may have noticed your Android or Fire app update. And if not, you can manually update it from the Google Play or Amazon store. The new version number is 4.0.3 The update includes a few new features and improvements: · Add and view flags Adding flags is just for staff members, but you can decide if you want relatives to be able to see them too when you turn on each flag set. · Record audio clips and attach those to observations · Switch between separate Tapestry packages This is a feature for you if you have multiple Tapestry logins e.g., if you have children at two different schools/settings or you are an educator covering multiple year groups and each year group at your school uses a different Tapestry account. It stores a list of the accounts you’ve recently logged into on the device you’re using and lets you access the PIN screen of any of them. You can choose which account you want by clicking on the new ‘switch school/nursery/childminder’ button. · Reply to observations with an observation This new button at the bottom of observations lets you create a new observation and have it automatically linked to the observation you’re replying to via ‘page links’. Birth To 5 Matters on Tapestry For those of you already using the new flag system for the upcoming changes to the EYFS this September, you may have noticed some new flags and reference material appear. This is to include the non-statutory guidance document “Birth to 5 Matters” in the current flag system. The additional aspects within Birth to 5 Matters are now available to select as Flags; they are nested within the original area flags: As well as these new flags, you will also notice additional ‘reference material’ which relates directly to Birth to 5 matters appear in the Reference Material box on the right-hand side. The Reference Material box now also appears when you make a Reflection, whereas before it was only visible while making Observations. A Change of Name – EYFS 2021 We have changed the names of a few things on Tapestry this month. This was to reflect the correct year the EYFS reforms came into official use, and also to include the Birth to 5 Matters document alongside Development Matters. Below is a list of what has changed: The flag sets will now be called: - EYFS 2021 (rather than Development Matters Guidance 2020) - ELG 2021 (rather than Early Learning Goals 2020) - CoETL 2021 (rather than CoETL 2020). The Areas of Concern screen will now be called ‘EYFS 2021 Areas of Concerns’ (rather than DM 2020 Areas of Concerns) and that will be found under EYFS 2021 in the tracking tab (rather than under DM 2020). The EYFSP form will be called ELG 2021 EYFSP and will be found under ELG 2021 in the tracking tab (rather than ELG 2020). This won’t impact any data you’ve collected using those features up to now. The New Thoroughness Screen We have a new monitoring screen for the EYFS 2021 framework, with a focus on thoroughness. It shows you how many observations and reflections have been flagged with each of the EYFS 2021 flags for each child. We strongly support the idea that practitioners do not need to make lots and lots of observations and we do not expect educators to try and reach a certain number in each aspect. We do still think that having a screen like this will be beneficial to educators though. It will allow you to quickly see if you’ve made fewer observations in specific areas, giving you the opportunity to investigate why that might be and ensure your curriculum contains rich experiences tailored to your children. Another example of why this screen might be useful to you is if you see a wide disparity in the amount of observations for certain areas, which might highlight a lack of confidence in your staff. This can guide you to more specific CPD options. EYFS 2021 Report Format We have a new report template: EYFS 2021. It is very similar to the existing EYFS report template, but it does not have the age band and refinement assessment information, leaving only free text boxes for notes and next steps for each area of learning. The ‘Child’, ‘Details’, ‘CoETL’, ‘Additional Information’, ‘Child Voice’, ‘Relative Contribution’, ‘Signature’, and ‘Media’ sections all remain. It will automatically appear in your list of available templates as long as you have the ‘EYFS 2021’ flags enabled. Payments: If you wish to pay for Tapestry by cheque or BACs please can we remind you: Cheques should be made payable to ‘The Foundation Stage Forum Ltd’ and NOT Tapestry or the early years foundation stage forum. BACS – we moved our service provider for our banking in October 2019 and our bank is now HSBC sort code 40 18 22 / Account no 42445565 Our old bank account with Lloyds will be shut soon so payments made to that account in error will not be processed. If you need further information, please email the finance team on bacs@eyfs.info If you do not deal with finance in your setting, please ensure this information is passed to the finance team so they can make sure their records are up to date. Updating your contact details With the end of year fast approaching and staff potentially moving on, we encourage you to take 1 minute to just review the contact information you have set on your Tapestry account. It’s important to keep this as up to date as possible! A manager can find this information by going Control Panel > Settings > Contact Details. You will have two options: A contact email for us to use to contact you if we need to and a contact email address for relatives to use. Only the former is compulsory. That’s it for June! Have a lovely July everyone. As always, if you have any questions you can reach us on customer.service@eyfs.info
  22. In this tutorial I am going to show how the Thoroughness screen for EYFS 2021 works. There are two screens: Individual and Group View. Please note, only Observations and Reflections that use the flag set "EYFS 2021" will be included in this screen. Also, do be aware the EYFS 2021 flag set was formerly called 'Development Matters 2020' on Tapestry. This was updated to incorporate the Birth to 5 documentation. The Thoroughness screen was designed to help you see you an overview of your provision, ensuring you are providing broad and rich opportunities across the 7 areas of learning. It's also a useful screen if you want to navigate to all the specific observations you have made in certain areas. Let's look at the Individual view first. If you want to see how the Group View screen works, just click here. Individual View To navigate to the Thoroughness screen you will first need to click on Tracking (1), then EYFS 2021 (2) and then "Individual View" underneath Thoroughness (3). Here you will see this screen where you will first need to select a child (1). You can also specify a period of time the screen shows data within (2). Either one of your assessment periods, the full history or a custom time period of your choosing. Once a child is selected, you will see the screen below. As you can see, this shows you the 7 areas of learning and the aspects within on the left hand side. Down the right hand side you will see amount of Observations in each of the areas/aspects (1). And, if you have Reflections enabled, a similar column for these (2). The number in each row denotes how many Observations/Reflections have been flagged with that specific flag. As you can see, Abby has one Observation using the "Understanding the world" flag (1) and one Reflection using the "Communication and language" flag (2). Clicking on any of these numbers will show you a pop up box with the title and some of the notes included in the Observation or Reflection. If you want to see more information, you can click the title of the post and it will open it, in full, in a new window. Similarly to other screens on Tapestry, you can export this one as a PDF or a CSV using the buttons near the top (1): Group View To get to the Group View screen, follow the first few steps as before. Go to Tracking (1), then EYFS 2021 (2) and then click Group View (3) Once on this screen, you will see the following options. As before, you can select the period of time that this screen pulls data from (1). You have the usual filtering options for the children: Cohort, Group, Key person etc, which you can select by using the drop down menus (2) You can reset all those filters if needed by clicking the "Reset filters" button (3). And you can export this screen as a CSV or PDF by using these buttons (4) If you scroll down you will see your results below: As you can see, the areas and aspect of learning are listed down the left-hand side of the screen (1) and the names of your children are listed across the top (2). You can use the top scroll bar to move across the list of children. Again, similar to the individual view, this will show you the amount of Observations (and Reflections if enabled) that each child has for each area/aspect. Clicking on any of the blue links (3) will show you more detail and you can navigate to each post which includes this flag for more detail. Go back to Main Tutorials Page
  23. May Newsletter Hello everyone. Tapestry Webinar This month, Ben and Stephen from our Education Team hosted a webinar entitled “Tapestry and the New EYFS Framework”. The Webinar had over 3,000 attendees and we are happy to announce the full video is now available on our YouTube channel for you to watch whenever you need! This webinar is a great place to start if you are thinking about what the changes to the EYFS could look like in your setting, as well as finding out more about how Tapestry is adapting to support you. We covered the main changes to the framework, enabling and using the new ‘Flags’ system, monitoring, and SEND provision. Also, if you want to grab the slides used in the webinar (among other helpful resources on the same topic) just go here and you can download them. Tapestry Education Conference (TEC) – Save the date We are planning another free, online Tapestry Education Conference: Reflecting on Parental Engagement. The TEC will be on 24th June, 4-6pm. Keep an eye on our socials for updates on our speakers and the main themes for the event. Child Statuses Our Customer Service team have had a lot of questions recently about the different child statuses on Tapestry and what they mean. As a result, Emily has written this handy guide which breaks down each of the 4 statuses and how they are different. If you don’t have time to give the whole guide a look, I think it’s worth knowing a bit about our newest child status - “Enrolling”: This was designed for when you want to add a new cohort of children at the end of the academic year before your current children have left. You can't use the full functionality of Tapestry with children that are enrolling. You can only: 1. Attach them to relatives. 2. Assign them to staff as key children. 3. Add them to groups. 4. Complete their All About Me. 5. Print name labels for them. It's only possible to add the same number of enrolling children as you have active child spaces, so if you have an up to 60 child package, you could add up to 60 children as enrolling. Once you make an enrolling child active, it's not possible to change them back to enrolling. Articles This May Have you ever visited the articles section on our website? If not, I thoroughly recommend it. We publish new articles every month on a wide range of education topics. This month we have one that focusses on books and story-time by Emma Davis. Another by our resident SEND advisor, Stephen Kilgour, on how you can use the new Areas of Concern Screen in partnership with the Cherry Garden Framework. And lastly, a Q&A with the UK Ambassador for Happiness, Action Jackson Feature Focus: You can use the Forum! If you enjoy the articles and resources on our Tapestry site, then why not take a look at the Foundation Stage Forum (FSF)? We also publish new articles there every month, too. You don’t need an account to read those articles. But the forum is also a lively, friendly place for discussion and reflection with fellow educators. So if you want to join in on any of those conversations, or perhaps start some new ones, you can sign into the forum using your Tapestry login details. It’s a simple process but we also have this tutorial showing you the steps if needed. The Tapestry Survey If you would like to respond to our recent survey you still have time – it will close on 31st May. The focus is on engaging with parents and carers. It explores how settings and schools connect with families, and support parents and carers who face barriers to engagement. Responses are anonymous and we’ll share a summary of the results on the Tapestry and Foundation Stage Forum websites. The results will be used to inform our article themes and to support our public relations and marketing, as well as to inform the way we develop Tapestry and the Foundation Stage Forum. We would love to hear your views. You’ll also have the chance to win £25 of M&S vouchers. We will announce the prize draw on Monday 7th June. To take part in the 3-minute survey please follow this link. If you responded to the survey early on and weren’t able to leave your email address (for the purposes of the prize draw) then please contact customer.service@eyfs.info with the subject ‘Survey: Newsletter’ and we’ll be sure to include you in the draw. Thank you and sorry about that! That’s it for this month’s newsletter. As always, if you have any questions, you can reach us on customer.service@eyfs.info Take care, Jack.
  24. Hi, Brittany :) We are actually developing a system to allow settings to upload their own frameworks to Tapestry. Would you like me to keep you update on any developments to that?
