A tight fit

In these days of doom I thought I would present you with a pressing problem at our Pre-school. We have cable drums that naturally some children like to post things through the centre hole. Most of them can be retrieved with a bit of wiggling (the cable drum not the member of staff!). However, we have a rainmaker stuck inside and would quite like it back. My challenge to you is how do we retrieve it? Please remember to show your workings out as you will get extra marks.

I'm assuming it's wedged in the centre of the drum - is there access to both ends of the drum.  What is the rainmaker made of? Wood, or plastic?  Is the centre of the drum metal?.  Is the drum outside?  Could the wood have swollen from rainwater?  So many questions 😂

Oh dear, think I may have to elaborate....... the plastic rainmaker has been posted into the cabledrum and is loose inside. It makes a lovely sound as it clatters around in the garden. The hole in the centre is about 2inches wide. Too small for adult hands and our children are not yet at the stage of critical thinking and problem solving. Does that help? Don't make me go back to work to take a photo!!!!!

Now that it really taking a sledgehammer to break a nut.😲 ! I have so far managed to retrieve half a carrot, 2 cars, 1 motorbike, a glove, numerous sticks and a few leaves. (That sounds like 'what's in my pocket'!!)
