larnielass Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 In these days of doom I thought I would present you with a pressing problem at our Pre-school. We have cable drums that naturally some children like to post things through the centre hole. Most of them can be retrieved with a bit of wiggling (the cable drum not the member of staff!). However, we have a rainmaker stuck inside and would quite like it back. My challenge to you is how do we retrieve it? Please remember to show your workings out as you will get extra marks. 2 Quote
Steve Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 Haha - Might be worth posting a photo of the problem area? Quote
Panders Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 I'm assuming it's wedged in the centre of the drum - is there access to both ends of the drum. What is the rainmaker made of? Wood, or plastic? Is the centre of the drum metal?. Is the drum outside? Could the wood have swollen from rainwater? So many questions 😂 Quote
louby loo Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 Photo or it never happened! Washing up liquid and string is my answer though. Quote
larnielass Posted October 23, 2020 Author Posted October 23, 2020 Oh dear, think I may have to elaborate....... the plastic rainmaker has been posted into the cabledrum and is loose inside. It makes a lovely sound as it clatters around in the garden. The hole in the centre is about 2inches wide. Too small for adult hands and our children are not yet at the stage of critical thinking and problem solving. Does that help? Don't make me go back to work to take a photo!!!!! Quote
sunnyday Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 Mr S says use a piece of wire with a loop on - sort lasso it Quote
larnielass Posted October 23, 2020 Author Posted October 23, 2020 Oooh, good idea. Full marks to Mr S. Quote

twinthinguk Posted October 24, 2020 Posted October 24, 2020 we generally roll ours round till anything loose falls out, I have retrieved wedged dinosaurs by ramming them through with a broom handle, not had anything completely jammed in though lol x good luck Quote
Froglet Posted October 24, 2020 Posted October 24, 2020 How about a something (piece of wood, ruler?) with a large lump of blue tac on the end. Insert into drum and press firmly on to rainmaker until near enough to reach? Quote
larnielass Posted October 24, 2020 Author Posted October 24, 2020 Froglet, I like your thinking.🤔 Quote
larnielass Posted November 7, 2020 Author Posted November 7, 2020 No! It doesn't help that it is our largest cable drum (2ft across) so it's quite cumbersome to move around. Good job I like to problem solve😄 Quote
finleysmaid Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 well you could do what i did this week and break it 🙄😱 amazing what i found inside !😂 1 Quote
