As we reach day 5 of over 30 C here found this information from Public health England about caring for children in Early years settings.. may be helpful -

I am not coping too well, funny how on holiday it never seems to bother me, but think it is the lack of respite here against air con when away,,

Me neither. I am taking 140 children on a trip tomorrow - am hoping hard for a little cooler and a breeze!

Excellent ratio there Froglet - hope they look after you all right. ::1a ::1a ::1a

we had our summer trip today and it was hard with it being so hot - the children definitely coped better than the staff - never been more grateful for an air conditioned coach ;)

Good luck Froglet - I only took 27!!

Just to reassure those who may take me seriously - I am taking 140 children but I am also taking 4 other teachers and enough helpers to give an overall ratio of about 1:5. I am in overall charge and organisation role though - I shall probably be awake at 4am tomorrow and feeling very, very relieved at 4pm when everyone is back safe and sound.

OMG 140 children, my mind boggles!! We are taking 23 to the beach next month and that is enough to give me a few more grey hairs.

Our children are just wilting today, I have been initiating water fights every day just to cool us all down!

I know - in my last school that was the entire school! I am significantly greyer than I was when I first started this job!

MASSIVE storm this morning - we came inside (no I was not prepared to keep the children outside particularly as we were all wearing summer clothing)and watched lightening and torrential rain through open double doors - very entertaining and interesting - we counted between lightening and thunder to tell how close the storm was - much excitement when the lightening and thunder became simultaneous signalling that the storm was right above us :1b

One little girl had her hands over her ears initially but she soon got swept up in the excitement :1b

with security the way it is at the moment i'm afraid I think they would just run over us!! The last time we went in ascot week they had locked all the gates and we couldn't get on the site....then we couldn't get the keys because all the staff were at ladies day!! (forewarned we hope we have sorted these issues this year) we missed the storms today...hope they don't come tomorrow or we'll have to cancel :(

I love a good thunderstorm. All went well today - all 140 children safely there and back, no injuries, no throwing up, lovely bus drivers. The weather was perfect dry, breezy, cool!

PS My top tip for sleep at night in really hot weather. Round about tea time put a hot water bottle filled with cold water into the freezer. When you go to bed take it out, put into a cover (mine's furry) and put in your bed - it creates delicious cool patches and really helps me sleep!

I love a storm too, love the anticipation too - this one had been rolling about in the distance long before it reached us......

Pleased that you had such a good day :1b

Me too! However this morning we had a few spots of rain....contemplated whether or not the bring the rugs in, it looked bad so we did, but in the end we had nothing much.

HOWEVER husband at home 3 miles away- had the lots_wind, heavy rain, and big hail stones (no real thunder though just distance rumbles)

So glad the weather is cooler now, was still 25 here but a lovely breeze.. so much better.. I like the hot weather but the lack of breeze was not helping.. Spent a good hour shopping in our local supermarket as they have brilliant air con.. didn't buy a thing!

For sleeping I use damp towel or sheet as a cover and a fan.. helps keep me cooler - (its how we used to reduce babies temperature when it was very high a damp cover and a fan. ) I also stand a bottle of frozen water behind the fan.. helps cool the air a bit.. We had a desk fan that used a frozen block in it which was wonderful, but it broke and never found it again.

Glad all the trips are going well.. dont miss the stress of doing those.

, and big hail stones

So pleased that we didn't have any hailstones they would have battered the beautiful flowers in my garden, I would not have been a happy bunny.........

As Inge said a welcome breeze here today :1b
