My mother in law told me that growing up in Germany, one of the Christmas presents was a ball of string, with which she had to knit a dishcloth before dinner was done. It was to keep her, and her sister out of the way, I guess. That’s what they got every year, an orange, if they were available, and the ball of string. There would sometimes be a few yards of fabric to make an apron or skirt. How countries and times are different!

It sums it up better - there’s always the bright spark that comments that someone is crocheting rather than knitting. Our church ones are crafternoons, we have quilling, painting, crochet, embroidery and last winter a lady was tatting. It’s a fabulous idea to learn these skills before they are lost. We are looking for a lacemaker to join us next winter!

Yes it does! Plus it was a couple of years before I stopped thinking of my year in ‘terms’. I do still quote the old learning outcomes statements in my head when I see or hear young children attaining a ‘target’. ‘Pretend that one thing represents another, especially when objects have things in common’ is a regular one 🤣🤣🤣

Yes that sums it up very well! I have also taken delivery of a holiday dog whilst my daughter and wife-to-be are at the Blue Dot festival. She’s no bother at all after the first day when she follows me like a sheep - including to the loo! She doesn’t obey the ‘no dogs in the kitchen’ rule, and my own dog is very ‘put out’ and stands by the door watching yo see if I’ll notice if she slips in too! 🤣🤣🤭

Ours enjoyed Bob the Builder games and similar on the computer and we also had some remote controlled toys. The beebots were either loved to death with arguments over whose turn it should be, or totally ignored - it was definitely a resource that needed an adult present to intervene. Children also enjoyed using the iPads to take pictures of each other - this was fabulous for tapestry as the dialogue was really useful. We had a child who could play minesweepers on the iPad too, and several enjoyed mahjong.

Oh zig-zag, so sorry to hear this. I still feel slightly broken at my Dad passing, and the simplest thing still sets me off, so I know the road you have to travel. Be kind to yourself, and just let your feelings happen. It does get a little easier, but it doesn’t go away. He gave you precious time to get used to the idea that he wasn’t going to be there, and that will help with what you’ll be facing now. sending virtual hugs to you and lots of love. We are all here if you need us, my friend xxx

Proud Mum moment yesterday when my son attended his third graduation (it never gets old) this time for his Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning, which will enable him to go from Associate Professor to full Professor when a post is available at the Uni where he works. He teaches mechanical, electrical engineering and applied theoretical and methodolical engineering (I think 😳😳) it’s all a bit above me!

It’s my understanding that he needs to re-teach his senses. Spend a good few minutes smelling the same thing, like coffee or whatever and re- train his brain. It really works, but it takes time and lots of repetition over the course of a day/week/month.

Absolutely, Froglet! Scones are my quick ‘go to’. Cheese ones might be nice with some pickle or chutney!

Hmm. What sort of things were you thinking about? Some plain scones with Jam and cream is simple, with a dish of strawberries. Pigs in blankets are easy and always a winner in our house.

Sunnyday, that’s what it’s all about! We have a lady in our group who suffers from depression quite badly. We managed to persuade her to come along, and she did. She can’t knit, or crochet, but for her, the achievement is getting out of the house and being with people. She didn’t speak to us for the first couple of weeks, she just listened, but she’s starting to join in now. It feels massive.

Cardigan finished and handed over. I’m pleased with the fit. She loves it too and couldn’t wait to put it on. I could have saved myself a load of anxt though, picking up stitches for the button band, as she just undid the top button and pulled it on and off like a sweater! 😂😂😂😂🥰
