Wildflowers Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 One can see how difficult it is to get outstanding! There aren't many green markers on the map... Quote
Fredbear Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Very interesting thank you for sharing. Quote
Cait Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Could be useful, but I can't get it to offer other than primary schools on the iPad. I'll have a go on the laptop later. Looks a much better way of searching though! Quote
Stargrower Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Wow. it's a bit addictive, reading inadequate and outstanding reports! Quote
Guest Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Wow. it's a bit addictive, reading inadequate and outstanding reports! That's what I was just doing as well. What surprises me is the amount of good comments in a report where there are 3 negative things mentioned... Children are engaged and happy and are making good progress, there is great resources etc and then there is one or maybe 2 things going wrong dragging the whole inspection down to inadequate... Quote

I've noticed that recently too - when you read the full blurb about the amazing and exciting things settings are doing and then they get a Requires Improvement think you can also tell by the inspector whether they like a packaway setting or not! Wildflowers Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 Whilst looking on the site (to avoid work) I see that Torbay is the place to be. They got an exceptionally high percentage of outstandings there and no inadequates. Quote

caffinefreak Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 In my humble opinion, if you read this article http://www.daynurseries.co.uk/news/article.cfm/id/1565609/new-chilcare-minister-says-school-led-nurseries-at-heart then go onto watchsted and click on Early Years, then click on Nursery Schools, you will see that the vast majority of Nursery schools are outstanding with only one in the last 100 days being inadequate yet the vast majority of Early years are good with a few requires improvements and some inadequate. I'm going to stick my head on the block and say this is nothing more than a political agenda to 'prove' their point that School nurseries are the best places for young children. 3 Quote
Mouseketeer Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 'Why are nurseries stand alone and not included in early years' went through my mind too when I looked at it. Quote
mundia Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Nursery schools are inspected the same as schools at the moment, rather than the same as other other years provision. So the break down on the list is for type of school. In time it might be interesting to see the different early year provision including childminders. Nursery schools have for a long time had a greater number of outstanding (or excellent in the past) results from OFSTED, this is nothing new, and this was also found in the original EPPE research, several years ago. A great deal of what has happened in early years education has been influenced by this research over time. Whether or not you agree with the methods used for this research, this is leading the influences we have today. Quote
LesleyF Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Does this mean the nursery schools get advance notice, in the same way that schools do? Quote
Guest Nuby Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 yes they do get notice....a point to consider also? Quote
