LKeyteach Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Hi I have started on the usual clean up exercise for the end of year. All my plastic bricks and playdough toys go straight into the dishwasher. But I was looking at some of the dolls. Poor things have had so many baths in the mud kitchen! Anyway the plastic bodied ones I have put through the dishwasher and they have come up beautifully, but am not sure how the soft bodied and the ones with "real hair" will do. Has anyone tried? What results have you had? I may take them home and put them through washing machine, it may be safer. Quote
Stargrower Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Yes, we wash our 'soft' dolls in the washing machine regularly and their fine. 1 Quote
woodlands1997 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Chuck them in the washing machine :-) 1 Quote
Cait Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I do everything in the washing machine and they're fine. Bricks go in pillowcases with the tops double tied. Remember not to put detergent in with the painting pinnies or they lose waterproof-ness 1 Quote

Panders Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Well we have several different types of overall, some are less waterproof than others, but I have always washed them with soap - so no surprise now then! Perhaps I could try reproofing with our skiing jacket stuff?! 1 Quote
SueJ Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Dishwasher for some things especially playdough tools, rollers and cutters in a big wash bag. Have this year hired a "Rug Doctor" to clean the rugs - they are lovely and sparkly now - woe betide the child who pukes or pees on any of them next term We rather love our steamer and have steam cleaned most of the other stuff including the tables and chairs and most importantly the dollies - too much immersion in water and they spend the whole of the autumn term peeing everywhere 3 Quote
LKeyteach Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Thanks all. Dolls will be chucked in washing machine this evening! I do hire a carpet cleaner for the last weekend before we come back so that will be done. But I have found steam cleaning the chairs does not really get all the grime out. Anyone any ideas on this? LKeyteach Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Cait Thanks for that. I was trying to get away with the least possible physical action. Oh Well 1 Quote
Cait Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Just bleach and a damp cloth and leave it for an hour! Quote
LKeyteach Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 That sound better. I think that may be a job for next week or maybe when I return from holidays. I want to have some sort of glamorous nails for lying on the beach and sipping cocktails. Just to let you know that I have just released the rather sparkling dinosaurs and wild animals from the dishwasher. I think it could be the farm animals turn next! 1 Quote
SueFinanceManager Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 What about spraying them with bleach outside and leave them for a while whilst doing another job then just hose them down and leave to air dry Gotta get a sunny day though.....oh that's an idea ask sunnyday to do them :P 3 Quote

larnielass Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I'm going to sound like a TV advert here!! I've been using Cillitt Bang, Grease and sparkle. (Other cleaners are available!) Best thing I've EVER used. A bit pricey at £3,50 but I noticed Tesco have got it half price. It lifts the grease and pen marks off Community Plaything Tables and cleans up plastic chairs a treat. Works really well on those rubber interlocking floor mats. A little bit goes a long way......Mmm, I wonder if I should use it at home??!!  2 Quote
tish501 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Just got to get the staff motivated to help doing it while we are open all summer 1 Quote
Stargrower Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 We get children to scrub tables and chairs outside and they love it! An adult sometimes has to go along behind with a bit of extra cleaning but the children often do a really good job. They love cleaning cars too! Quote
LKeyteach Posted July 27, 2014 Author Posted July 27, 2014 well I think am going to have to hope that the weather stays dry for a few weeks. Really do not want to spoil my lovely nails before my hols with all that wet and bleach and stuff. thank you all for your comments. Quote
