Froglet
Went for a walk this afternoon because it was that lovely golden autumn sunshine and I just couldn't stay inside. Found some gorgeous and enormous maple leaves which I think will be just right for the new number line I want to make so I collected lots. So far, ok... I've just got home and washed them - they are now drying all over my dining room carpet! Is there any hope?!
mundia
Helen, wish you lived near me, you could have had some of my mine. I have the most beautiful red maple, but raking the leaves isnt one of my favourite jobs. I recall some years ago, washing and wait for it.... moisturising, a pile of leaves for school. I am clearly a lost cause!
Froglet
Now moisturising... hadn't thought of that! Don't think it will be necessary on this occasion.
Stargrower
If you paint them with silicone it's meant to keep the colour and lustre. But I have to say I've never tried it!
Froglet
These will be laminated onto a piece of card (I hope!) so they should still look shiny, will see about the colour.
zigzag
Have to confess I laminated some leaves the other day and the laminator has not been the same since!!
Guest
It sounds lovely. . . . . . But only an early years person would think it entirely normal to wash, moisturise or laminate your findings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mind you, I suspect I'd do the same whatever year group I was with!
catma
Yup - I did much the same in Years 1 to 5!
apple
moisturise them - Pah! I had made mine their own little beds made entirely of unicorn hair

Froglet
Thanks for all the reassurance that I'm not the only 'pleasantly eccentric' person out there! moisturise them - Pah! I had made mine their own little beds made entirely of unicorn hair Now I'm worried  no unicorn here. Do you think they'll be ok if the beds are made of freshly harvested thistledown washing in morning dew? I am knitting them woolly hats spun from Old man's beard that I gathered but it took me a while to do the spinning!
sunnyday
Helen - I need to add my reassurance - all sounds perfectly 'normal' to me.............but then you already know that I'm completely barking.........
Froglet
I just put one back to soak this morning. They dried a little too quickly and have curled up too much. If re-hydration doesn't work I'm going to have to do it all over again next weekend!

Upsy Daisy
May you need to get your moisturiser out after all! I think I had a bit of a backwards moment there! You may.....
Froglet
I think I had a bit of a backwards moment there! You may..... Nothing like a Star Wars moment to cheer things up. The bucket of warm water seems to be working so far. Now to find something I can press them under while drying!
Guest
I have number line of laminated leaves dancing across the windows in my classroom, collected, counted and laminated by my YR class a few weeks ago. I have to say I think they were more interested in how the laminating machine worked than anything else, but we had a lovely time collecting the leaves! mundia
Yup, Helen that's exactly why I moisturised! (Reminds me of Cassandra saying 'moisturise me, moisturise me')
