My twin boys have this book - they are also age 7 and it's their favourite book. We read it all year round!!! Will take it into the Pre-school this year to read to the children as I'm sure they will enjoy it just as much

Well it looks like I'm on my own in my dislike of it! I don't like the illustrations, rhythm or 'storyline'. It's in our pile of books to borrow and it's not one tht many children choose either.

One of those books, that when I get to the end of it I think, 'someone got paid for writing that! '

I do choose it to read at story time, we never let personal preference interfere with choices or story telling methods.

The other one I don't like at this time of year is, 'twas the night before Christmas' mainly because I think it's going to be better than it is, and it's such a 'classic', but none of the children have a clue about what a lot of it means. Always disappointing.

Sorry, that comes across as if I'm a bit 'Bah, humbug,' when I'm really not!

I do like 'Bear stays up' , 'Little robin red vest', and many more!

Actually this is one of my favourite Christmas books. We have read it for a number of years, the children are spellbound by what happens to the little dog in the story who is cruelly abandoned at Christmas time, once it has grown out of being a puppy .

Not a dry eye in the house with the grown ups! There is also a follow up story too which is just as good.
