December 2009 Competition

Its time for our December Competition! Last year I asked you to think up some new lyrics to sing along to the tune of Away in a Manger and we had some wonderful entries. This year I'd like you to get your creative hands upon Jingle Bells! The lyrics can be about anything you choose but they must be written by yourself and try to keep it clean please! :(

Here are the original lyrics to help you get in your stride. You can make yours whatever length you like, just make sure you can sing them along to the tune! When you have finished your lyrics just post them in this thread for us all to admire. :o

Good luck.

Dashing through the snow

In a one horse open sleigh

O'er the fields we go

Laughing all the way

Bells on bob tails ring

Making spirits bright

What fun it is to laugh and sing

A sleighing song tonight

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

Jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

Rules:

1. Only one entry per member is allowed

2. Moderators can join in with the fun and post lyrics but are not eligible to win

3. Closing date for entries will be 30th December

4. If there are lots of entries the Moderators/Admin team will pick a short list of entries after this date

5. A poll will be posted where members will be able to vote for their favourite entries (from those short listed if necessary)

6. The winner will be the person receiving the most votes on the poll when it closes (and will win £20 and a wonderful Fsf gift), with the person receiving the second most votes being awarded the runners up prize of a Fsf notepad. :(

7. Please keep it clean/inoffensive and only post lyrics you have written yourselves xD

8. Any complaints can be sent to Steve and any praise to me! :(

9. The rules may change at any time as or when I think of something I haven’t already covered xD

What a good excuse to stop writing my assignment!

Here's my effort:

An Early Years Christmas

Verse 1

It’s that time of year

Everyone agrees

Trying hard to fit it in

Brings us to our knees

Hali’s keeping tabs

Lest we all forget

What we’ve got to do this year

There’s targets to be met

Chorus

Oh Christmas tree, Santa suit,

Party planning too.

Paper chains, loads of pots

Of glitter and of glue.

Letters home to Mums and Dads

For costumes if they’re able.

Have we booked the church in time?

And where’s that wretched cradle?

Verse 2

Big sigh of relief

The end of term has come

But tomorrow’s Christmas eve

and I’ve got nothing done!

Thinking on the hoof,

Shopping on the run,

Wrapping in the early hours

and all the jobs are done

Chorus

So sit right back, look around

and enjoy the view

Everybody’s having fun

It’s mostly down to you

Eat the chocolates, drink the wine,

the brandy and the beer.

Then propose a quiet toast

SAME AGAIN NEXT YEAR!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Thank you for your lovely comments everyone. They've given me a really big smile!

Now it's over to the rest of you to add to the fun. I'm sure there'll be plenty of brilliant entries to put mine to shame :o

Unsworth - don't you dare not have a go!

Struggling through my SEF

It's boring me to death

Still end of term is nigh

No visit from on high

I'll heave a massive sigh

and eat one more mince pie

What joy it is to have a rest

and get back to my best

Oh risk assess, risk assess

Is there no other way

All we really want to see

Is children laugh and play

Love my job, love my job

But I have to say

Ofsted please forget to come

Or at least don't come today!

Here goes!

It is the time of year

to spread a little cheer

but LA refused today

our grant for outdoor play

Been told the SEF is fine

even after all that wine!

Five kids have got the chicken pox

and three have got the swine

Observe, assess, observe asses

my files are in a mess

thought i'd done some good planning

but kids are not impressed

Oh, SFF, SEF

It just goes on and on

FSF you are the best

may long you carry on!

Thought I'd put the Christmas decs up to give you some inspiration. :(

Very festive and tasteful too, Steve! (but I wish the snow was real :o )

Inge, I have had the tune stuck in my head ever since I made up my entry and now the kids have heard me humming it and they're joining in too! Perhaps I'll have to teach them some FSF words. xD

Colds and flu

Colds and flu

Cough and splutter and wheeze

Can’t even have a glass of wine

Do you think it is the swine? (oink)

Penicillin today, Steroids too hooray!

Off to bed we go, Wheezing all the way

Pillows stacked up high, Making breathing light

Oh what fun it is to be, awake half of the night

Colds and flu

Colds and flu

Cough and splutter and wheeze

Can’t even have a glass of wine

Do you think it is the swine? (oink)

Make sure you push the fluids, Make sure you wrap up warm

Be sure to take the pills, And you won’t come to harm

Soon you will feel better, just you wait and see

Then you can go out in the snow, and make a snowman or three

Colds and flu

Colds and flu

Cough and splutter and wheeze

Can’t even have a glass of wine

Do you think it is the swine? (oink)

Can you tell I'm feeling just a tad sorry for myself??? :o

What a way to get your inspiration :o

I take it you mean from her late night/early morning conversation with a certain fellow forummer, Upsy Daisy! xD

The world is clearly a whiter, brighter place this morning after our setting it to rights! Thanks Mrs T!

Since we haven't had many entries I'm going to extend this. Come on folks, have a bit of Christmas fun and pen some lyrics. Some of you seem to be fed up of the attitude of shop assistants - perhaps that could inspire you? What about the Christmas No1 - love it or hate it, why not wax lyrical about it!
