louby loo
OMG!!! I had one of those many years ago. We had a small group playing a board game the other side of a glass door.... up-chucker walks to door and projectile vomits again the door..... it was like a comedy horror movie the children and adult the other side of door screamed in total shock. I can't remember how we dealt with it in the end I think told mum he wasn't ready, and she very quickly stopped giving him a full bottle of milk before he came in🙄 He did settle and became one of our well behaved pleasant children in the end. Oh, yes and a couple of full changes of clothes for staff!!

zigzag
We had a child who did this many years ago. It definitely was not projectile but still unpleasant. You could set your watch by him! In the end we got Gran to stay with him and decreased the time that she stayed and also she would move out of the room to the cloakroom etc. It was very distressing (and unpleasant) seeing the child so upset. Glad to say we worked our magic and it didn’t last for too long. Yours sounds a slightly more complicated situation but I can’t help thinking that you really don’t want bodily fluids such as vomit in the current pandemic! No i definitely dont want bodily fluids...with spray!!! have full PPE available for this event as per covid instructions ...other member of staff sent away quickly, isolated in a well vented room etc etc etc can't say that i wasn't a bit 'off' with mum by the time she got back to us (only works on the corner of our road ...took her a good while to get back. tricky to allow anyone to stay but i have done a garden entry with stepdad stay an play then leave (so not mum) . Told her not to feed him and bring in a lunch box for when settled. If this doesn't work then he'll have to come for a short session in the morning i think. I a complex little boy starting thursday...i need it sorted by then!

This is how we've handled our screamer, and it's woking well- as he goes home just as he's really getting Pack-away problems- We have actually put so much less out now, and we are also trying to go with things that can be dumped and the end of the session -like anything that can be recycled, lots of boxes and paper bags for 'shopping' etc! Our best new resource so far this year is ........4 rather large roadwork cones! We have a big hall and they haven't made it to the outside yet- they children love them. We just stick them outside the fire door at the end of session -quick and easy. Are there things already in the hall you can adapt? Our children love it when the 'big tables' are out! We use them to make dens etc, again quick and easy. Mushroom trays are your friend!......... particularly now, if you can get a few . They are light, stack together and we use them to get small amounts of our usually free choice bits out. Added bonus is they are great for washing resources. I guess if your 3rd staff member is able to return and do very light duties- i.e. just watching, supervising this could make a huge difference, as you can put less out- and have a 'staff runner' if anything else is needed. For drying paintings we just hand a bit of string and make a washing line across the windows. We use the park a lot as we do not really have an outside area, small yard type thing, so not sure how that will work from Monday. x Thanks Louby - what 'nervous child' - do you mean my little girl that is worried about the toilet? She is not the 'screamer'! The 'screamer' is a returner who, really, is just displaying her temper (not helped by mum being a bit hopeless!) - I am going to ask her how she intends to take this forward - I have more new children starting this week and she will frighten them. She goes on to have really good sessions so that tells me she is not unhappy The one who is worried about the toilet - I have asked her mum to take her in there at the start of each session - it is the only solution - she is otherwise very well settled I have done pack away before (in a previous life), it is just hard to go back to - I have been thoroughly spoilt for the past 26 years! I am hopeful that my staff member with broken arm will be in tomorrow - have spoken to her and she is doing very well under the circumstances Onwards and upwards (hopefully!) Rebecca
Helloo! 👋 I'm still here - been head down hard at it since March ... gradually feeling like we know what we're doing. Now have 45 children back in every day - 3 bubbles. All staff that wanted to return are back - one has gone on Maternity, one was on a temporary contract anyway and one wants to be with her school age children and that doesn't work with full day care hours. I'm a bit frayed round the edges, but I'm back back back!

lynned55
Oh Rebecca- I do sympathise with you- looking at care homes. Had to do it last year for my Mum- luckily found a lovely one that she has settled well in. Unfortunately not able to visit at present but that's a different story that we are all aware of! Sunnyday- I hope this week is better for you- we are the opposite to you. We've always been semi packaway, everything pushed down to one end at end of day and then pushed back at start- with all packed away on a Friday and bought out again on a Monday morning. However our lovely supportive (at the moment) priest has said we can leave it all out 'for the present' Made so much difference- esp in the mornings. Despite all the cleaning after closing. Long may this continue! Finleysmaid- we had a vomiting child last year- terrible- he was also EAL- after he had thrown up all over two different staff members- both of whom had to go home to get changed, we told Mum she had to stay. She had already stayed for half a term with him. Anyway- we then went into lockdown- reopened in June and he walked into the setting without a backward glance and is an absolute delight. Quite amazing- sorry not much help to you! I'm not sure how I would deal with that now- I think I'd be inclined to say he couldnt stay. We've had a really good week this week. All came back really happy- think some had forgotten our names I had intended to cut my hours right down this year and mainly focus on the admin side. However this virus has put paid to that really but have managed to drop one afternoon- numbers are down so have saved us some money. Will have to hope for next year. We start some of our new ones this week- fingers crossed they will cross the threshold on their own. Luckily most of them this year are siblings and/or mix with quite a lot ours when collecting from local school. Have a good week everyone 1
sunnyday
I know it's not Friday! Just wanted to share some great news - Mr S has a date for his procedure (endobronchial valves) at Royal Brompton - it is Wednesday 23rd September - woohoo!!! He has to strictly isolate now, will receive a Covid test kit in the post, needs to take the test at 7am Saturday, it will be collected by a courier and if all is well, number one son will drive him up on Tuesday (masks in car) ready for procedure on Wednesday - I can't go at all, which is sad, but completely understandable

Result - my little girl who was worried about the toilet is no longer worried at all and in fact we can't keep her out of there now (!), my screamers mum was asked to stay and settle her properly, as opposed to a drop and run situation, I explained that she has been frightening the other children and that is not on when it is all just a display of temper - mum duly stayed until 10:20 (we were mainly outside during that time) - this little girl hasn't attended today, message to say that mum wasn't well - hmmm......

I think so +++ we are all under extra stress and strain ourselves Although I absolutely do not want anybody to be struggling it is kind of comforting to find I am not the only one Heard today that a pre-school very close to here consider that and I quote "we have got the cleaning sussed, we are using a steamer" - note not a fogging machine, just a hand held steamer, no disinfectant added - again I quote "just the hot steam will kill the virus"🤦♀️

louby loo
We're certainly struggling a lot more this week. I think the honeymoon period is over for our returners. One thing we've noticed is our children that are now doing full days, are doing them from the off. every other year parents build up the sessions over a few weeks- not this year! I think six months at home and the parents want them out for as long as possible. We've had to phone parents to collect early today as the children were just not coping well. Tired, tears and very ratty.
Mouseketeer
We usually find our returners after the summer surprise us all and just step into the shoes of the school leavers on the whole...this is really not the case this year, 6 months off has done many of them no favours at all, independence has taken a dive and not listening to anything being asked of them, they’ve gone free range, I’m actually more concerned about how ‘school ready’ they’ll be next year than the ones who missed the last term with us this year.
