Best modelling Clay to buy?

We have always used homemade dough - some successfully and others that crumble and provide little 'playability'! I would like to try clay for a change. Anyone got a 'best buy' ? Thank you

I like the clay from 'The Works' and 'Hobbycraft'. I don't like the stuff that's reinforced with fibrous stuff, it doesn't hold together well when it's dry and it's hard to get it properly smooth. The clay from 'The Works' seems to stay workable for longer, and it's not too stiff, once an adult has 'got it going' for little hands to work. Neither are sticky, unless children have wet hands, in which case, pretty much anything would be sticky! They both dry well and readonably quickly too!

 

 

A few years ago I got a tub of air clay, which is incredibly light and nicely malleable if you don't want yo make anything in particular. It dried like rubber. We made snowmen with it and is didn't require too much actual modelling, then drew features on when it had dried.

We have used air drying clay and normal clay last week of half term , just for the sake of it with no intention in mind except to give a material that could build motor strength and ignite imagination too .ours came from baker Ross

Thanks for your thoughts everyone, shall definately give it a go this half term - mainly for the reasons Lashes stated!

 

....and maybe I can take all my frustrations out on it too! with a smile on my face - of course! : )
