British Fundamental Values

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Did any pre-school make a policy for the British Fundamental Values? One of my colleagues said you need to make a policy for it, is this true?

Thanks

There is no statutory requirement for a policy but for Inspection purposes you would be expected to demonstrate how you are enabling children to understand the values in appropriate ways.

We have a really nice policy/statement that was sent to us and we have adopted this. But after completing WRAP training this week, I have gone through all our policies and linked them to the BV. Am now compiling A4 prompts to go on the wall that links the BV with the EYFS and COEL. Just so that staff will see how embedded they are in our practice all ready.

Happy to share what I have so far, will upload them when I get onto my computer tomorrow. Would love feedback and ideas that we could add to it.

Right these are just in the early rough form and would LOVE ideas to include on them. They are of course personal to our setting. I should point out that we live in a 99.9% white British community, so find it very hard to enable the children to really appreciate the diverse nature of Britain in a meaningful way. Please share any ideas that I can add to these to develop them. These came about as an idea from a training course, as something to have on the wall as prompts for staff during an Ofsted inspection and to get the staff to really understand the link between BV, EYFS and COEL. All comments welcomed.

Zigzag I think that is very well thought through and presented will read it all properly a little later and come back if anything occurs, its very similar in its points as I have seen on another and good to see how simply it is portrayed everyday through our typical practice. Thank you for sharing

Thank you zigzag- I havent yet read properly (just skimmed through them) but can already see that they are going to be very useful and will (hopefully) kick start my brain into working properly. If I can think of anything further to add I will come back and do so.

I have also downloaded a BV policy from PSLA- unfortunately I dont think I can share on here as it probably copyrighted??

Anyone who is a PSLA member shoul dbe able to get it direct from them though.

Hi Zigzag, thanks for uploaded files! One question-it might be really obvious but what does COEL stand for?

Many thanks for response!
