Compulsory First Aid

Thanks Cait, I wonder how long someone will be classed as newly qualified after gaining their qualification, it would have made more sense that they had to complete it as part of the qualification.

Well the apprenticeship schemes i am familiar with they do their pediatric first aid as part of their level 2 (or higher) qualification. At the moment the framework states 1 member of staff must have a qualification. i think it is safer and best practice to have all members qualified where possible or at least most.

There was a thread about this was this was first announced. As no more has been said recently, I do wonder if this one has slipped away for the time being?

I had an email from a company that stated "all early years workers must have first aid training" so I challenged and asked where the EYFS compulsory standards said that. She replied with that link. I've emailed her back and said that it doesn't say "all workers" on there either! It's a company selling training trying to put one over on me! I just thought the link would be helpful to someone out there. I too think that paediatric first aid should be a compulsory part of the training and didn't realise it wasn't nowadays. Certainly when my old staff did theirs, they didn't completely qualify until they had done their first aid.

Good point, Cait about using it to advertise training. I think a few folk might accidentally fall into believing this is already signed and sealed, and go off and pay a small fortune to get everyone trained.
