We have a SIP and now sunnyday area senco's are back ....woo hoo and we have a fantastic one in our area

we have used the communication tool when we were part of the ecat project

we have decided to use it for all children this year with a view to highlighting problems but not sure whether we need it???? time will tell

Whoop, whoop, SENCO's are back, I didn't know that!

...now they are really worth the money, no hidden agenda (targets to reach) just a genuine interest in individual children and the way and means of advising us how to do the right thing by children.

Can't wait to hear the news of their return from official channels.

No sencos in our area either, our EYA sort of had to 'wear that hat' too.

She was saying that now the focus is for them to bring settings which have had a 'satisfactory' up to better standard. This means that settings which are considered 'good' dont get as many visits, maybe just a phone call and for her she doesnt get to go into the better settings at all. She says she misses this as a lot as what she sees as 'good practise' and 'things that are working' she passes on and now she only sees settings that need to improve! Hope she doesnt pass any of that on!

Oh and we do ECAT too. :1b

Thanks so much everyone for the replies! :1b

Hmmm - this is not Ecat - have used that and can 'cope' with it - this is the screening format that a SALT would use when a child has been referred........having had a close look I think that I have come to some sort of decision and will use only when I have 'concerns' - think it all looks terribly time consuming........feel that I am skilled enough to know which children need this so why 'waste time' and also I fear it's going to be pretty boring for the children! :1b

Guest youngrisers

was at a twilight training tonight and was told by our area SIP and the Area advisor that Early years sencos are being reinstated and we have new PC1 forms now and that they are taking on more SALT people for our area. We also have ECAT but rarely use the CSA forms as we work with all children on their language skills. Why do more work than required?

Oh no, what is this CSA you all speak of?? Never heard of it!! why is there no central body that TELLS settings, all settings, when there is something new to implement like this. It seems I have to find out stuff via hearsay and would love more official universal prewarning before some bod appears and says "oh yeah it's now compulsary and why haven't you got it in place?" GGGGRRRRRR OFSTED, PLA, EYA's and any other official party who don't let us know together and expect us to be psychic. Sorry rant over mumble grumble

There is a central body, it's called 'The Early years Foundation Stage Forum'. Its populated with knowledgeable and selfless people who share and inform and without whom I would have pulled all my hair out long ago xD

Hmmmmm - thought that I should give this CAS thing a bash this morning.......

One question is 'How did you get here today'?

I asked one of my 'tinies' he is approaching 3 and is a super little chap and extremely capable in all areas = so this is how it went......

Me: How did you get here today?

C: Yeah, last week

Me: How did you get to pre-school today?

C: Yeah, I've got a new fish

Me: Lovely, how did you get to pre-school today?

C: Yeah, it's name is tiddles

Me: Oh that's a good name, how did you get here, to pre-school today?

C: Can I go and play now

Not a resounding success as you can see!

Haha, that sounds like a conversation I would have!

In fact often have with my Mum on the phone!! Sometimes it's just easier to agree with whatever nonsense they say and try again later

Absolutely - he is more than capable of telling me how he got to pre-school - I think he just thought 'why on earth is she asking me this very boring question when I've got far more interesting things to tell her'!!! :DxD
