Seven clues solved out of 47, so I guess you can safely say that I'm not doing very well with this crossword... :o

Anyone good at cryptic clues? My brain is in meltdown.

First clue: Primate hot, to a degree, wearing fur hat. 8 letters.

Second clue: Piece stripped back - fragments said to be lucky? Two words, 5 and 7 letters

Any help gratefully received... xD

First clue - BEARSKIN - prehaps

I think the first could be gorrilla. Grills are hot and gorrilla is a primate. It must be some sort of monkey or a human as they are primates, but not sure about the degree or fur hat could be a gorrilla cap. :o

Isn't there only one 'r' in gorilla though? :o

Yes you are right about that xD Hmm primates! Orangutan, chimpanzee, macaques. I'm no good at this sort of thing. The only other meaning of primate is an archbishop. I don't think they wear furry hats :o

Did you sort out somewhere to stay for the Manchester education show?

An hour so far xD ...Maz, if you've got any more letters PLEASE let us know. I'm not very good at crosswords, especially cryptic, but I cant leave this. Its driving me mad :o

Hands up who's missing Carol, she's usually a good source of random info! Like Rea, I too have to keep coming back to see if someone's come up with the answers.

Its driving me mad :o

Me too Rea, me too!

I did think about religious primates, and I wondered about baboons because of the degree bit (BA) but the fur hat bit has me stumped! The first letter would seem to be 'b' because the concensus of opinion was that the answer to the clue "ugly women's trousers" is BAGS.

I bought the paper today expecting to find the answers only to find that they won't publish them til Monday! xD

I'm sorry I asked now!

And yes, I'm sure Beau would be a great help! :(

Thanks for bushbaby - enabled me to solve 4 down. "Corner one at Aintree to have a drink" - BEND THE ELBOW! xD

Mum asked me to post for her (Because she's gone shopping).. So this is obviously very very important if it can't even wait to couple of house until she gets home!

She says: White Rabbits?

At the risk of pushing my luck and sending you all crazy, can I have help with this one please?

"Offered notes on girls in summer wear" (10) I have an answer that I think is wrong - an anagram of 'notes on girls' minus the R and an O.

SINGLETONS :o

It seemed like a good idea at the time but now I'm not so sure. Anyone got any ideas?

Maz

Oh - thought I'd got that one really quickly!

Too many letters - MINIDRESSES - 'notes as in minutes' + 'summer wear - dresses' - oh well, I'll keep thinking!

Actually now I've looked at it again it doesn't really work anyway!

So here's another...

"Plant first of trees in square after devastating gale" (9)

E _ L _ N _ _ _ E

Or how about this one?

"Island where bird has feeling of resentment, made to go topless" (10)

_ _ R _ I _ _ _ U _

Over to you! :o

EGLANTINE is the only word in a crossword solver that fits it and the beginning part is an anagram of gale so that fits the clue not sure about the end part though

"Island where bird has feeling of resentment, made to go topless" (10)

_ _ R _ I _ _ _ U _

MARTINIQUE is an island in the Caribbean, fits the letters but not sure about clue?

Martinique makes sense - a Martin is a bird and resentment is pique - then if you make that 'topless' by taking away the 'p' you get the ique part - it works for me anyway :o
