MarshaD Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 We haven't had to close yet for any reason, but a parent did ask me if they would have to pay if we were shut due to the weather. What does everyone else do? TIA Quote
reflection01 Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 We say full payment for the first two sessions then we will review and let parents know Quote
Stargrower Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 We refund for snow days. We've only closed for one whole day in 12 years. We have closed early (3.30pm instead of 6pm) a couple of times. We don't refund for this. If we are open and staff do not or cannot come, they can choose either to take the day as holiday or unpaid. The day we closed, the staff were paid as it was my decision not theirs. 2 Quote
narnia Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 If we can stay open, then we charge. Otherwise no 1 Quote
sunnyday Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 We always do our absolute best to stay open - can only think of a couple of occasions that we have closed - fee paying parents were refunded in full - it is the only fair way to proceed in my humble Quote
Wildflowers Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 It's not staff's fault, so they're paid. Quote
finleysmaid Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 we try to offer an alternative if poss rather than refunding (only cos its an accounting pain!!) Quote
thumperrabbit Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Payment deducted off next fee slip Staff not paid if we don't open Quote
bubblejack Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 We very rarely close.I think I have closed for 1 day in 25 years.Parents are in credit for next term.Staff have a choice to do free online training and get paid or not get paid Quote

The day we closed, the staff were paid as it was my decision not theirs. Two of us walk to work, one doesn't, so we can stay open as there always are some children missing when the roads are that icy. You got me realising that it wouldn't be fair that both (of the other two in our team of three) would be paid but one is working and one isn't. I will change that in the employment terms. (The winter when one couldn't get to work for a day or two, the staff member was doing admin work at home.) 1 Quote
