Happy Friday!

Have had a few days out this week, catch up with family and a friend. Lots of weeding done (and more still needed!), various DIY jobs done at home and lots of reading. It feels like quite a productive week.

Am planning to spend the day tidying and checking things ready for next week at school. Then this weekend will just be a 'normal' one.

Bit late this week after a lovely week away in Norfolk.   Weather perfect there with top temp 26 -which is more than hot enought for me 😊

Back to work today, but all good there too.

Right, off to finish filling the green bins with the week's  unwanted garden growth before the rain comes.

Good morning - 'tis Friday

A fairly busy week here.

Tuesday found us in London for a hospital visit for Mr S - it was absolute chaos up there as the tube drivers were on strike, not that we could take the tube anymore but of course the traffic was just dreadful...the black cab ride back from The Royal Brompton to St Pancras cost us £60.00 not the drivers fault he just couldn't move...

Just after we reached the hospital there was a huge thunderstorm with hail like you never saw (!) all of us able-bodied peeps left the waiting room to see what was going on - it was all rather exciting!

This weekend we have a party to attend - whoop - it is one of Mr S' cousins who recently got married in Cyprus - they are hosting the party for those that couldn't attend the wedding...

Have some 'structural' work going on out in my garden today - a retaining wall (wooden) had well and truly rotted out - it is being replaced with some super smart sleepers - can't wait to see the end result!

That's me caught up - how is everyone else getting on?

Hi everyone!

Almost forgot it's Friday today.

Sunnyday - Tuesday was a pretty weird weather day. I drove home from work  where it was sunny- less than 2 miles (as the crow flies) at home the village was flooded in parts from rain that had just happended 😳

Can't believe we are heading into the last weeks of this year at work 😮.  I had planned to finish this July, and I think mentally I have checked out already, as I just can't be bothered with doing all the bits and bobs I used to love doing. However, last minute changes means my daugter is actually considering taking it on - for a least a few years (lets be honest it is a job that fits in well with a young family 😊)

The job is definitely getting more difficult in terms of more children with 'needs'. For the first time ever we have had to cancel (or I should say 'rethink') our end of year little concert/show 😢   Out of 13 children only one can actually sing reliably, and a further 2-3 can do actions!    Any ideas for alternative activities welcome!😭 So far we've come up with a forest walk then picnic- with the parents being resposible for their own children (yes- that how challenging some of them are this year!)

I'm actually looking forward to September- as so far they are looking a really nice bunch 😊😊

I'm not sure if it's reassuring Louby but that is the same story everywhere!

I've done 4 days in school this week ending with today in a new school which was lovely.

Had some lovely long chats with my brother and sister whilst they were on their respective journeys home which was nice although at the moment we are all trying to figure out the best way to support our parents as they face the challenges of getting older. It's not easy to do things which are needed but in a way which doesn't upset people.

Nothing in particular planned for this weekend - I'll do another round of bindweed weeding as I'm trying to keep on top of it this year (!), I need to book some theatre tickets and continue the long running sort out of my spare room.

Louby - I always finished with a picnic (with parents responsible for their own children!) - if we were flush we organised a bouncy castle or an entertainer - sadly, towards the end of my time there was never any spare money, but I don't need to tell you that! We presented our leavers with a 'certificate' and all children received a small pressie (usually a book)...

When do you plan to retire now then?

 

Young Froglet - so pleased that you got to spend some time with your brother and sister - I wonder if our son's are having such conversations about Mr S and me - hope not quite yet 🤣

Bindweed is the absolute pits - good luck with it.

 

One of my lovely daughters-in-law called round and had a look at my new retaining wall - she said "wow that should last well" - I replied "yes, that should see us out" 🤣 - she was not happy about me saying that but hey ho! 🤣

 

I do hope our lovely zigzag is okay we haven't heard from her...

We always did a traditional sports day to end the year but gave that up a couple of years ago as we could no longer manage the children’s behaviour between races, they used to sit on mats and watch/cheer but not any more, we now set up some little sports challenges like goal shooting, hurdle jumping, assault course, throwing balls in to buckets, parents take them around the activities, they have a card with each activity on, a staff member or committee mans each activity and stamps their card, when they’ve done them all they collect a medal ….way less stress 🙌 

I have mostly spent this week being sworn at and having the heaviest thing available thrown at me by a 3 year old 😔

Wow thanks!  Loving the idea of a mini sports challenge thing!

Our's aren't to phyiscal towards us thankfully - although one staff member did get bitten a few weeks ago, but to be honest it was partly her own fault reallly.

A few years ago we had a child start with us, mum told us english was his first langage. Well on his first session he was throwing chairs at staff running kicking etc. Turns out he did not have one word of english..... once we actually stopped talking to him and just used visuals he turned into one of our most well behaved children! Poor thing, he'd had to put up with a lot of old women chasing him around saying gobble-di-gook to him!...he must have been petrified!

I'm so sorry Mousie that is just awful

I do remember that about a zillion years ago I did get a 'literal' smack in the mouth - that child is now in his early 40's and has been in all sorts of trouble throughout his life, last that I heard he is 'homeless' which actually breaks my heart.
