Taking work home

I have looked through guidance and cant find any directive about needing security for manager taking work home......help!!!

what sort of security do you mean?

 

When i put our laptop on our insurance i asked if we would be covered if taken to our homes. They said yes, but not if left in a car overnight. However I'm guessing that's not what you really mean.

Could you give us an idea of what type of work you mean, to enable us to answer more specifically.

Manager writing letters,updating tapestry, paying wages etc........just a member of staff keeps going on that she has read on a forum (not this one) that a setting got inadequate because of it.......to be honest how would Ofsted know to begin with........

We get written permission from parents (part of registration process) that allows staff to take paper learning stories home. You could write a policy to cover everything and link to Safeguarding, Data Protection, Record Keeping, Confidentiality. Include the reasons for taking records home, how they are stored securely and not left in car.

Hmmm.... I would imagine that would go for most of us that are Managers of V settings-

 

In fact , if I didnt do/take most of my work home then I would probably get an RI as I am in ratio most of the week and nothing would ever get done

 

besides how would they know unless you told them?

I agree with Lynned55 - in the real world all the above are done at home if you are in ratio, and I doubt many pvi settings can afford not to be! And, as has been said - how would they know??? That inspector must think 'the fairies do it'....... Edited May 8, 2016 by Rafa

Statutory requirements are as follows:

 

3.68. Providers must maintain records and obtain and share information (with parents and carers, other professionals working with the child, the police, social services and Ofsted or the childminder agency with which they are registered, as appropriate) to ensure the safe and efficient management of the setting, and to help ensure the needs of all children are met. Providers must enable a regular two-way flow of information with parents and/or carers, and between providers, if a child is attending more than one setting. If requested, providers should incorporate parents’ and/or carers’ comments into children’s records.

3.69. Records must be easily accessible and available (with prior agreement from Ofsted or the childminder agency with which they are registered, these may be kept securely off the premises). Confidential information and records about staff and children must be held securely and only accessible and available to those who have a right or professional need to see them. Providers must be aware of their responsibilities under the Data Protection Act (DPA) 1998 and where relevant the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

We have the tiniest filing cabinet which is housed in our only cupboard in the main room which is then padlocked when setting not open.
