klc106 Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Hi all We have moved premises over the summer. In our new room, we have the toilets adjoined to the room. However, the kitchen isn't. We have to go out of the double doors and the kitchen is along a short hallway. Others users will be using the building whilst we are there (double doors are secured so others users have no access to the children). Is anyone else's setting like this? Ofsted were happy with the situation at the registration visit. She asked about storing lunches and I said we have purchased a fridge for our use to store them. The other problem is now we are running out of storage space to put the fridge! Do others store lunches in the fridge? I'm not too keen on storing them in the kitchen fridge as other users have access to it. Any advice is most welcomed. Thanks Quote
lsp Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Don't know how to do links but there is a discussion in this area started 20 July by lynn28 called food hygiene. Lots of stuff about lunches and fridges. 1 Quote
lashes2508 Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) We keep ours in 2 big aldi frozen food bags with cold blocks , they zip up and can take at least 26 lunch boxes x we have our own fridge within the kitchen for snack , milk etc and a big label stating it is the property of the preschool and no items are to be placed in or removed Edited August 18, 2015 by lashes2508 1 Quote
Guest Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 We are mornings only, but my daughter's preschool did lunch and we had to provide it in a cool bag with ice pack as there was no fridge to store all of them in. Quote
Inge Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Never stored lunches in fridge, schools don't. Parents had to use a cool box and put an ice block in .. we had a note to put inside any who came without an ice block, and had a few small ice blocks for parents to buy from us as they always said they could not find them and used it as an excuse not to put one in! No excuses you can buy one from us  We did same as lashes, had big cool bags and put lunch boxes in there with an ice block and put that in our cupboard. 1 Quote
Panders Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 We are a bit like Lashes, firstly we ask that cool bricks are put into lunch bags, and secondly we ordered with our Sainsburys tokens a couple of years back a huge cool bag on wheels - bit like a shopping trolley which is insulated and has space for about 15 lunch boxes and we put them in that we can then wheel whole lot in one go to the lunch table. 2 Quote
narnia Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 We store lunch boxes on a trolley and we put ice blocks in them, as hardly any parents think to do it, in spite of repeated requests 1 Quote
Fredbear Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 We have a large cloakroom trolley with a space at the top for all the lunch boxes. Parent/carers put an ice block in. 1 Quote
mrsbat Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 We are packaway in a village hall and like you occasionally other users also use the kitchen so all the lunchboxes are stored up in the main room, parents are asked and reminded to use ice blocks as we definitely wouldn't have room in the current fridge or room for a new fridge or room for any other kind of storage for them....... 1 Quote
