staff access to tapestry at home

I currently have my staff access limited to pins so they cannot log on when they are not in the setting. I figured as a safeguarding measure the his would be best but I'm curious what everyone else does and if anyone has any comments from ofsted re this

would also like to know how staff in settings using tapestry who struggle with using computers are getting on with this? we look to start this in september but have 3 staff who are really worried as they are not very computer wise and also how easy is it to set up for the manager / lead with childrens names etc., ?

My staff are set with pins but they access at home? I supplied them all with a tablet when we started to use Tapestry which they ale home as our work internet is intermittent at best. They all signed a contract to say the tablet was for work use only and not to be used by anyone else or for anything else.

Also even my most 'technophobe ' member of staff loves Tapestry - it is so easy to use and much easier than lots of writing. t does depend on how you plan to use it. We take photo's with a normal digital camera, upload them to Drop box which staff can than access from their tablets to create the obs. I think some settings take the photo with the tablet and do the observation there and then, we just do not have the time to do this during a session. I can't recommend Tapestry enough, staff, parents and the children love it.

My staff have only got pin access so can't access at home. We have three iPads between four of us. I found that staff used to doing obs and assessments were fine. A younger member of staff that was fine using an iPad couldnt (and still hasn't) got the hang of it as well. I do find staff use the app though and then forget how to use the full system.

 

Hopeytg - why don't you take the photos on the tablet? Also if you had time to write post its / write narratives during session you must have time to do your obs in session. How do you remember the obs / assessment later in the day?

The cameras are always handy, ready to take a picture and far less cumbersome. We only ever wrote notes on post its, never a full observation with EYFS referencing during a session. The notes were then written up afterwards. We now jot a note if we need to remember speech for example but the photograph is enough to know what the observation is about.

Staff have a tablet each, though as a safe guarding measure our 'user agreement' does say any member of staff can use any tablet, I started them off with pin only but it became an issue if they were logged out when using at home as the device needs logging back in with email so they now have made up emai and own password, we never use cameras now only tablets, some find it easier to just use the app to do ob straight away, and some find it easier to just take the photos and add later, particularly if group obs when not all children working at the same levels.

I allow staff to log in at home, they used to take folders home so for me it's no difference.

Just been inspected, Inspector was fine with Tapestry although didn't take too much notice she just said use what works for you and she didn't ask about security.

We have tried, but there just isn't time during our sessions for everyone to use Tapestry properly - to record obs and assessments and then to be able to look at next steps etc, so I do let them log in at home. I trust them. They used to take learning journey books home, and I don't see that it's any different

We log in from home too. Due to time restraints at work. All staff sign an agreement they will not acces tapestry via public computers eg library, not leave it unattended, share files or download pics etc.

Parents also sign on an agreement stating they understand and are happy for staff to access their child's journal from home. Works well but yet to be ofsteded so will wait and see.

Our staff have access via pin only , we have a 2 week rota which includes obs time and Tapestry time , we take photos on tablets upload to Tapestry and staff can either do obs there and then or just write down and complete in allocated time.

I am not sure I am understanding your request, we don't have a user agreement regarding your staff taking home learning journals which is what this is, just in an electronic format.

 

Do you currently let your staff take home hard copy journals? Do you have a policy for that?
