narnia Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Ok ladies and gentlemen, It is time for narnia's 'check your bits' campaign reminder. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 6 years ago and am here to tell the tale, because I found my nipple was inverted and got it checked out. The rest as they say, is history.............but I'm not! So, make it your promise to yourself to check your breasts for any lumps, bumps, nipple changes, discharge or even rashes. ANYTHING that seems out of the ordinary, get it checked. Gentlemen, your dangly bits are best checked in the shower, when you'll be nice and warm (unless you are one of those who like a nice cold Nordic shower!) again though, any lumps, bumps etc, PLEASE get yourself checked. I normally do this in a week's time, on my actual anniversary, but have just heard that a relative has been told he is in the final stages of his Cancer illness. It is a reminder: Early intervention saves lives. please, if you only do one thing for yourselves this week............make it the 'check your bits' moment. xxx 5 Quote

Stargrower Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Thank you and my thoughts to your relative. Quote
Guest Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 thanks for the reminder. 5 minutes of embarrassment leaves many more minutes to be lived and enjoyed - so sorry to hear about your relative - Quote
Guest sn0wdr0p Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Thanks for the reminder Narnia - I paid attention last year and ended up having a biopsy (painless and not nearly as bad as expected) which fortunately came back OK and having another mammogram Wednesday next week. Having lost many relatives to this horrible disease many of my family are offered and have had preventative mastectomies. Early intervention could have helped my three cousins in their fight against breast cancer - so can I just add don't take no for an answer if you are worried push for more investigation. I think your check your bits reminder is great and I am going to make a poster now with that wording and put it up in the staff room. Quote
Inge Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Thanks Narnia, turns out my mammogram is booked for next week.. and mums please remember to teach your sons to check form an early age... they can get testicular cancer from 14 . My son is now a survivor because we taught him to check .. he was 21 when he found a lump and pushed to get it treated.. 8 years on after treatment and all good.. he is now enjoying life to the full and getting married next month.. 3 Quote
