Guest Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 We are also a pre-school, in a pack away setting. We take ours home but it was suggested to me recently that perhaps we shouldn't be because of data protection so I wondered what other people did.

Guest Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Ok, that sounds like a good idea, I might suggest it to my supervisor. Wouldn't it be great if we didn't take them home though? I guess in an ideal world there would be staff and time available to allow us to complete them in the setting during working hours.

Guest Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 we too take them home. we have no time to complete at work and with up to 14 key children each we just wouldnt be able to keep up. Why do we get such a hard time about this? teachers take school books and records home so why is it such an issue for us? Daft also as all our journals are all positive comments so there wouldnt be anything we wouldnt want anyone else to see.
blondie Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 we used to take ours home but were told we shouldn't by our development worker - breach of confidentiality - there are names and dates of birth on them - we now have arranged for key worker time dependent on the number of key children staff get more / less time. not sure what happens at the end of term when we have yo update the books though as this will take longer than the given time. also the two year checks will have to be fitted in somewhere x
klc106 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I have to take mine home as the cupboard we store our stuff is often gets used my other hall users (that's another story!) so it would not be confidential to keep them there. During holidays etc. I keep them in a filing cabinet at home
Melcatfish Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I take mine home. As mentionned above teachers take school books home. I always took books home when I had year 1 and year 2 and I still do now. It simply isn't maneagable to do it all at school. Mel x

mrsbat Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 We take ours home too, we have a bit on our permission forms for parents to sign to say they are happy with us doing it and I discussed it with ofsted at our recent inspection too and she was happy with it We do some bits with the children but the majority of writing we have to do at home as we are in a village hall and have to pack everything away before other groups come in after us so there's no time to do them at the setting.

Friend did and got loads of conditions including secure transport, secure storage at home, no photgraphs etc etc.! She now has no alternative and as a sessional group they struggle to do them at work! Keeping quiet about what we do! Agree that all we have is positive comments, no details about family or address and we could remove DOB. Photos are all small, grainy (I'm a cheapskate about printing). Guest SueV Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 We are also a packaway setting and my staff leave the individual folders in a secure metal filing cabinet. We did start to encourage staff to stay on a couple of set days a week to catch up but it was not very successful. My main reason for suggesting ths was to ensure that all keypersons folders had a similar amount of content because there were one or two who didn't do as much and it was becoming too obvious. They now do their work at home and just put their stuff in the folders at the setting and I check them on a monthly basis. I do sometimes wonder who is sitting in theor little ivory tower thinking up all these rules and regulations because they obviously have never worked in a pre-school!
