Guest Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 What is everybodies policy on plasters - do you use a constent form? ATM we ring parents if we want to use a plaster, but its timeconsuming. We already ask parents for allergies on entry.
Stargrower Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 We ask permission on form when children start. Can we apply plasters, suncream, nappy cream etc. Beehive
suebear Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 unless been told there's an allergy we use them if necessary
Deb Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 We too ask if we can apply hypoallergenic plasters on the registration form. Last first aid course I went on we were told that plasters should be applied to protect against infection. Mind you that was 3 years ago and advice might well have changed back again!!
HappyMaz Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 We also have a section about plasters and suncream on our registration form.
Rea Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Plasters The link goes to the H&S web site. Its one of the Myths of the month they have on there. So long as you are aware of allergies or only use hypo allergenic plasters I dont think there's a real problem.
Guest Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 We have a consent form for giving first aid and near the bottom it asks if parents are happy for plasters, waspeze, sun cream and savlon dry to be used. We rarely use plasters but it's good to know if you can use them!
fairygarden Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 We use plasters assuming no allergy is mentioned on our registration form. Went on first aid course in November and was told plasters are ok and good for keeping out dirt etc.
Guest Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 My goodness! Just went on first aid course and told to use tape and pad as it's less likely to come off and plasters not really good practice because of them falling off in setting. We have just taken plasters out of first aid box!

lynned55 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Sometimes it is just not feasible to put tape and pads on though. I do wish they woul dstop changing their minds about these things
Rea Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 It would be good if every first aid course and everyone connected with LAs sang from the same song sheet.
Rea Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 (edited) we are not allowed to use them Why not? Is it from LEA, management, training course? I have to say, from a parent point of view I'd be annoyed if my child had an exposed cut. Edited July 25, 2011 by Rea
