Boys

Ideas wanted please.

We are having a real challenge from a group of boys who are often saying "Girls can't play this", "This is for boys only", "Girls can't play Lego" and today it became "Let's shoot the girls".

We have tried to tackle this with talking to them, stories, e.g. "This is our House", trying to change their play by joining in but I have never seen this attitude so entrenched in boys so young. They all have sisters, and parents tell me this isn't coming from home. But it must be coming from somewhere. We thought we did well as a setting to challenge gender stereotypes but this is something else. HELP.

Humm ..now dare I say this????!!!

.how would they feel if they were excluded from play? could you take their favourite toys and put a barrier around them with a Girls only sign on it? encourage the girls to take part and see what happens??? (seems a bit extreme but maybe this is needed???)

girls have to chose boys to play a game (football team /choosing songs where boys have to chose girls and girls boys)

Sometimes actions speak louder than words! it doesn't matter with some groups how well you explain it they just don't get the idea. I remember many years ago getting so fed up with people breaking books I took them all off the shelf for about 3 days...they were much more careful when I put them back!

That made me smile fm - I have been known to say "right that's it now" and make some resources 'disappear' for a while! :D Sometimes actions speak louder than words!

So glad it’s not just me that does this!
