Good morning,

I wondered if any of you paid your SENCo an allowance and if so how much?

This is something I would like to do for mine however I am not sure on a figure?

Thanks

Jo

Ours is paid at an enhanced rate for her release time when she is carrying out her SENCo role - it's the same rate as our room leaders (about 75p an hour more than the standard rate)

That's interesting Rebecca what do you class as carrying out the role ? Ours is every hour at work and I complete forms such as additional funding and ECHPs.

When she is doing over and above her usual work in her group - e.g completing paperwork, attending meetings, working 1;1, delivering training to other staff. I would expect all the staff in the group to know particular programmes for children and particular strategies - but I wouldn't expect all of them to write those strategies (if you see what I mean)

I pay an annual amount think it's £700. Plus for extra paperwork like discretionary funding or request for ehcp I will pay extra time. I think this is a bit over top in terms of what I can afford but I wanted to keep the lady doing the role because she is so good at it.

Our SENCO is the deputy and it is part of the role so she doesn't get a separate increment. She gets paid for any additional hours worked and attending training outside her normal working hours but that is the same as all staff.

I gave my SENCO an incremental rise of 30p an hour ( I think it was). It doesn't sound much, but it was more an acknowledgement of the appreciation for the extra burden she had relieved me of! Mostly, there wasn't much for her to do, and when there was, we did it together.

Our staff get a termly payment of £40 for any additional roles they take on such as senco, enco, H&S etc including keyworking its not a lot but it was an acknowledgement of the extra work they undertake. They get the payment for each role they undertake so some get multiple payments
