Staff have come back genuinely recharged 😊 However, whilst your here I'd like to pick your brain - your end of year sport event went sooooo well 😁 I'd now like to ask what you do at Christmas please? Previously we've done a short concert type event just for our older children, we had to totally abadon that last year!. Last year we tried a 'stay and play' type event - it was ok but a tad manic... and actually the parents were the problem not the children! Any suggestions? PS - question open to anyone with any ideas please! 😊 PPS. I did try and edit the 'C' with Winter Festivities, but my laptop has decided to throw a hissy fit (maybe it doesn't like the 'C' word either 🤷🏼♀️) x 1 Quote
sunnyday Posted September 5 Author Posted September 5 (edited) louby - we used to have a 'C word' party - complete with a red suited gentleman (!) to give out pressies - parents very kindly made the food - was always a lovely way to end the term - oh and an entertainer - always completely 'stress free'! I’m pleased to hear it Louby 😊 We gave up on our traditional Nativity play and now have a children’s party, inviting (telling) the parents to be back 15 mins before we want it to end and sing a few festive (😉) songs. We change our role play into a stable for the last couple of weeks with all the Nativity costumes, props and story books, take photos, putting them together in the story order using iMovie with Away in a Manager playing over it. We do do a party with all the usual, including an entertainer etc. We also to do a little 'something' for our 'Leavers' (older ones) them for about 30 mins or so, then the youngers arrive for the party. It was only ever a few festive songs - some acted out, but even that was far to much for last years group. That said, we might be able to abanded that this year, if we have no past family siblings this year - as in past parents that expect the concert. Need to check that out! Froglet Posted September 11 Posted September 11 Good morning! Hurray for no vaccination side effects! I did my first days in school with children this week which were fine. I'm struggling to balance the workload with being part-time though and consequently am avoiding it and then doing nothing useful at all! I know it's the start of term and there are always lots of 'set up' type jobs but I am feeling slightly overwhelmed by it all. I have been exploring this week - I decided to try and liven up my walks (I've promised myself to do a daily walk every day in September even if it's only 10 minutes) and have discovered the joys of a canalside path which feels beautifully nature filled. I saw dragonflies and moorhens and lots of deep red hawthorn haws as well as discovering a lovely new bridge just down the road from me! Have a good weekend/week ahead everyone! Quote

zigzag Posted Tuesday at 20:05 Posted Tuesday at 20:05 Oh my, can’t believe I missed last weeks register call! Glad everyone is ok and all those back to school are having a good start back. Thank you for asking about Mum. She is no better and no worse. The eye still will not shut which is probably the biggest problem. She manages about half a day by using eye drops then has to put a patch on as it is so uncomfortable. The face droop is the same and showing no signs of improvement yet at all. She has started back to some of her clubs and activities which is brilliant for her mental health although she had a huge meltdown at the weekend but has got a grip again now. MY brother and his wife are visiting this week so that’s giving her a boost as well. My grandson celebrated his first birthday last week, where does the time go? It literally blows my mind that he is 1! He has his first day at nursery tomorrow! It’s my old pre-school where they now do day care and babies! I’m collecting him at 1pm as I felt it was a long day until 4pm for his first day. My daughter in law was so relieved when I offered, she is very nervous about leaving him with anyone that is not us Nana’s and Granny’s! walking along the canal sounds blissful. Although I’m spoiled with beaches, cliff tops and countryside! Quote

For someone who worked in childcare for over 30 years I was on tenterhooks all morning! (Really should know better) My brother and his wife have been down this week which has been lovely for Mum. Couple of weeks ago I was at my cottage changeover and thought there was a strange smell in the sitting room, opened the drawer in the coffee table to find a bowl of mouldy, stinking grated cheese!! In the bloody coffee table! 🤯 It was the last straw, and I thought I don’t need this 💩 in my life and handed my notice in! (Very rash for me) I haven’t loved this season, the people have been more demanding, more disgusting and trying to keep the expensive John Lewis white bedding pristine has been a never ending battle. I feel very relieved that I have passed the job to someone else! So enjoying a very relaxed Friday for a change! Hope everyone is well and those back at school are still happy! Zigzag thanks for updating about your lovely mum - I have everything crossed for her that things really improve soon - 'scuse me he can't possibly be 1 already he was only born yesterday! It has all been happening here this week! Not sure if I have ever shared that Mr S is an addict........his addiction is sheds (although I usually refer to them as bloody sheds!) - he is so funny, does he really think that after 50+ years of marriage that I can't see straight through him! He has been busily hinting that he 'needs' a new shed for the past two months, he imagines that I have no idea what's coming next, well he can think again!!! The current shed situation - he has: The 'little shed' this is where he stores his (not one but two) ride on mowers. The Workshop - huge and houses much woodworking machinery The Potting shed which does what it says on the tin His 'Music Studio' which has his (ridiculous) guitar collection, keyboard and mixer desk. He started his 'hinting' by saying "I'm a bit worried about my guitars, it's getting damp in the 'studio" - oh really, well get a dehumidifier and some heat in there!!! Then it was "the little shed, really needs to come down before it falls down, but then I wouldn't have anywhere to store the mowers" - "oh really, well move stuff around in the workshop and make room for them in there"!!! Finally "I've had an idea, but I know you won't agree" - "that is no way to start a conversation, do share your 'big idea' and I'll let you know what I think"!!! Can you see where this is going? Yep, he is getting another (bloody) shed!!! Very much 'aided and abetted' by our sons!!! Sons have 'grubbed out' one of my absolute favourite parts of my garden, we had the hugest ready-mix lorry deliver the concrete for the base on Wednesday and the new (bloody) shed was delivered yesterday - they will be spending some of the weekend here erecting the new (bloody) shed!!! Mr S is unable to do anything but supervise this but he will thoroughly enjoy that!!! Plan is (supposedly) that the guitars etc will come down to the new (bloody) shed - which has now been dubbed 'the posh shed' - he will also have some space for his woodcarving and goodness knows what else...'the Little Shed' will come down and mowers can be stored in the studio shed...watch this space!!! So that's my weekend taken care of - it will be bacon rolls and tea and coffees all round! Hope that you have 'enjoyed' my ramblings! Have a good weekend all x 1 Quote

Maybe you need your own shed?! 😉 Zigzag - good to hear the news about your mum and your grandson - I’m with the others being one isn’t possible! Hope your mum has further improvements soon. I went to a local theatre group’s production of the Great British Bake Off musical which was fantastic, will definitely be looking out for more of their productions. Off to a concert with a friend tomorrow and possibly a nearby arts festival on Sunday. I have been doing some autumnal cross stitch this feel - I haven’t really been feeling like knitting/crochet recently and I felt like increasing my crafting collection! Gingerbread and white chocolate cookies are cooling just now if anyone feels like a taste. Have a lovely weekend everyone! 1 Quote

He also has a winch house on the beach and then built another bloody shed next to it to store the tractor and kayaks! His dream is to have a boat workshop big enough to put the boat in over winter! This dream is also encouraged by my son! I feel your pain. Xx 1 Quote
