Upsy Daisy Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 A firm of solicitors regularly used by LAs to represent them in SEND tribunals has betrayed their appalling attitude to children with additional needs and their families on Twitter this weekend. They are well known amongst parents of children with additional needs for their dreadful tactics and willingness to win cases at all costs. If you can find a little time to message your local councillor and ask for reassurance that they will not be employing this firm to represent them in tribunals in the future, a lot of parents will have reason to be grateful to you. It's hard enough trying to care for children with additional needs without having to contend with professionals who are very willing to cause you harm in order to ensure that you can't get your child's educational needs met.Their tweet is a perfect example of their attitude and behaviour when dealing with vulnerable families. http://www.legalcheek.com/2016/06/outrage-as-law-firm-takes-to-social-media-to-boast-of-great-win-over-parents/ 1 Quote
Beau Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I was reading about this earlier. Completely unacceptable! Quote
louby loo Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Agreed! I saw this over the weekend. It's terrible behaviour and really not acceptable. Quote
Upsy Daisy Posted June 13, 2016 Author Posted June 13, 2016 It appears that our county paid this firm £82,000 at least in the last financial year. no wonder they are deleting my questions on their facebook page! 1 Quote
Upsy Daisy Posted June 13, 2016 Author Posted June 13, 2016 This links to an article just published by The Guardian about the matter. http://www.theguardian.com/law/2016/jun/13/baker-small-law-firm-parents-tweets-children-special-educational-needs I'm sure everyone's local councillor would appreciate a copy of the link to give them the opportunity to ensure that their own authority isn't employing these people Quote
Guest Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Norfolk CC have now cut ties with this firm, sorry can't do link but can be seen here EDP24.co.uk Quote
Upsy Daisy Posted June 15, 2016 Author Posted June 15, 2016 Lots of LAs have cut ties with them now.Sadly, our LA approves of their tactics and seems determined to maintain their relationship with them. Quote

finleysmaid Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 i wonder in how many of these 'cases' that the cost of paying for expensive solicitors outweighs the cost of possible provision for the child 3 Quote
Upsy Daisy Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 i wonder in how many of these 'cases' that the cost of paying for expensive solicitors outweighs the cost of possible provision for the child Worse than this is the fact that they will fight to prevent a child getting the school provision they know he or she really needs. If we don't win our upcoming battle, our child will never be able to go to school again. They know this full well and are ploughing on regardless. Sadly, we are far from the only ones in this position. Quote
