Rea Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 One of our little lads loves dinosaurs and because we've been gardening this week I thought we could dig for dinosaur bones next week, keep everyone away from the freshly planted seeds! Can I use real bones, bleached and washed or does anyone know where i can buy affordable large plastic ones?
Rufus Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I too am after these. I have only found small ones on amazon for £2.65. Have made some salt dough ones and paper mâché ones in the past but they are time consuming and they don't last. 1
Guest Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 don't see any reason why you can't use real bones, Alistair Bryce Clegg uses them very effectively http://abcdoes.typepad.com/abc-does-a-blog/2011/02/box-of-bones-anyone.html
Guest Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Hi If you want to save money use bonio dog biscuits for bones
finleysmaid Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 found this... http://intellokids.blogspot.co.uk/2011/03/bone-ified-dinosaur-activities-for-kids.html
Panders Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I've used real bones before, my staff were a bit "eee yuk" but the children enjoyed it, I just saved them up for a couple of weeks or so from Sunday lunch etc., all cleaned up as mentioned above. Have you got a local kind butcher who could sort you out? As you are in a hurry - I would suggest the bonio biscuit type bones this time. Have you seen Sun Hats and Wellies site, she is making dinosaur eggs from plaster of paris.
fimbo Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 We used bonio dog biscuits, dry sand, paint brushes ( to brush sand off the bones) magnifying glasses, rulers and tape measures to measure them and some dino books and printed dinosaur skeletons - my children really enjoyed this activity.
zigzag Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 We have also used the white milky dog bones which were very effective. I have recently purchased some dinosaur skeletons and fossils from cosey.

zigzag Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 They are great but quite small don't you think Yes I was really disappointed with them. The children played with them briefly, but soon got fed up. They actually had much more prolonged play and learning with some plaster of Paris ones that a member of staff made.
Panders Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 No, I haven't, doesn't look difficult though, in the past I have been satisfied with making 'fossils' or impressions in salt dough with the children, but I'm sure mine would love to smash open some plaster of Paris eggs with a hammer
