Guest Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 http://www.nurseryworld.co.uk/article/1185281/victory-early-years-sector-ratios " The Government has bowed to fierce opposition and ditched the proposed changes to staff: child ratios for nurseries and childminders." 'We are absolutely delighted that the Deputy Prime Minister has intervened and listened to the concerns and evidence gathered by the sector, parents and early years experts which dismantled the arguments for taking forward this ill-advised plan." Neil Leitch chief executive of the Pre-School Learning Alliance would it be fair to call this a win *does little victory dance dance* Quote
SueFinanceManager Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I was just saying to my colleague Ms Truss has gone very quiet ^_^ 2 Quote
Rea Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 I agree Sue, I'd be interested in how she's going to respond 1 Quote
SueJ Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Really Rea - I don't believe you - horrified, aghast, shocked etc. but interested! Quote
Rea Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 Yes interested She'll either say it was her idea after looking at the replies to the consultations or say we're ungrateful and don't realise what we've lost. The best respond from her would be 'i resign' 5 Quote
SueJ Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 She's been at it again - the link takes you to her latest ramblings - however I have taken the liberty of annotating her ramblings so that I may vent some of my spleen see the attached: Read what Liz Truss had to say to providers at last week.doc - My annotations The pukka version http://www.parenta.com/2013/06/24/read-liz-truss-providers-weeks-ndna-conference/ 3 Quote

Rea Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) She's been at the German Ambassador's residence today presenting German Teacher awards and reminiscing about her Anglo-Austrian exchange trip Gove isnt doing too well either, not that it will worry him at all http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2013/jun/24/national-curriculum-experts-criticise-government?CMP=twt_gu Edited June 25, 2013 by Rea Quote
Rea Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 One of the things that really concerns me as a minister – and I know that Purnima has just been talking about cost – is the massive differential we still have in salaries between early years and primary school. That isn’t the case elsewhere and I don’t think it’s right that the average primary school teacher is earning £33,000 and the average person working in childcare earns £13,000. I don’t think that gap is justifiable, particularly as we know the massive impact that high-quality early years education can have. If she doesnt think its right, what would her remedy be then? Quote
