Guest sn0wdr0p Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Today I ended up with only one child in my nursery after sending 4 home today including a staff member with chicken pox. The first one didn't even get through the door, the next one started to have them popping out during the morning so off he went. At 2.00pm I had to send a staff member home and at 3.00pm we were laughing about how easy it was with only two children as I headed to the toilet with one of them. Once there I spotted (sorry for the pun) a spot on his thigh and then checked him over to find many more. Yesterday we sent 3 home and the day before 2. On top of that there are all the children who are already off with it. I have never never known it for some many children to be affected at the same time. Incredible. Still never managed to get much paperwork done though. I wonder what tomorrow will bring. Quote
louby loo Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Bliss to have unexpected 'catch-up' time. ::1a Just a thought though- do you have to inform ofsted when you have 'x' amount off with same thing? Quote
finleysmaid Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Just a thought though- do you have to inform ofsted when you have 'x' amount off with same thing? only if it's a notifyable disease or food poisoning (chicken pox is not on the list) Quote
Steve Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 So which was the child in isolation? The one you had left or the ones who went home? 1 Quote
louby loo Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 only if it's a notifyable disease or food poisoning (chicken pox is not on the list) Well that's what I thought - but I vaguely remember reading somewhere about when so many children are off for same thing - as with the notifiable it only has to be one child. xx Quote
finleysmaid Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 yes i thought so too but i've been on the HPU site and can't find any reference to it...it used to be 2 cases and then ring them...! Quote
Fredbear Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Hi just had a look too, as in the past we have had to inform our local HPU when we have had a large outbreak, if in doubt I would give them a call for advice. Quote
Stargrower Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 We had the biggest wipe out I've ever known last summer. The first case started on May 1st and we were still going close to the end of the summer term. I think nearly everyone got it in the end. Lots of immune children now! Quote
blondie Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 we too have had lots of children off over this last half term with chicken pox - some never came in as started at home and others you could see the spots appearing before you - never had so many off with the same thing before Quote

That's the one I was thinking about They used to use the info to identify cluster outbreak etc. Well I suppose with all the cuts - that desks empty now!!! xx 2 Quote
