mps09
Here's an interesting one....... I understand that the Supervisor must be level 3 and 50% of the remaining staff must be qualified.... OK got that bit.... My Supervisor spoke to OFSTED who confirmed that clearly this is the case and we can't include a 'working towards' member of staff as qualified, and that everyone needed to meet ration must meet this 50% requirement. My question is that if we have 7 children (all aged 3) could the session be run by myself (level 4) and an unqualified member of staff? What do you think? Thank you! finleysmaid
no... because your other member of staff would have to be qualified (because they are the 50%!!)
louby loo
Well, is the supervisor off for some reason and are you the deputy? (which woud then meet the 50% rule) I suppose you could argue the case if the supervisor is on a short course/hosp appoint/ etc, and it's a 'one off'. However I would ring - or better still email (that way you have the answer in writing) Ofsted and check.

Fredbear
No my understanding is that there must always be two persons present at all times, so if there was an emergency and one needed to escort a child to hospital etc, you would have insufficient qualified cover left. Also best practice suggests that the person in charge should be supernumery as in not working directly with the children, this enables them to deal with any problems, speak with parents, phone calls etc.
Inge
It does say 50% of other staff qualified, but it does not state per session ... Have had the scenario above and Ofsted at the time were happy as a whole staff we met the 50% of qualified bit...not saying it is best practice or anything but occasionally we had no choice, we did have a qualified staff on call just in case ... as to supernumerary.. no chance.. no money to provide it.. and it does not even state to which level so the 50% could be all level 2 , with a deputy at level 3 In the past I have emailed them with similar things to get a written reply so I could file and keep it should any one query it..
