purplewednesday1 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Just to let you know .... In my post yesterday at Nursery I recieved an invoice from 'businessbritannia' for advertsing on their online directory. The invoice was for £230.52 I have not booked this advertising and have never had any contact with the company. I looked their website up and ...there was my nursery advert lifted completely from my Yellow Pages advert. Smelling a rat I googled the company (googling 'business britannia proforma invoice' and found that medical practices in Kent had also been targeted by this company - and it's a scam. I've phone Trading Standards and reported it ... if you have also had a letter then report it (Trading Standards Consumer Direct 08454040506), don't pay it! Best of luck pw x
Steve Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Thanks for that PW. I've put a note on the front page - and found this from a quick search!
purplewednesday1 Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Yep, that's the one! Boo hiss pw
Rea Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I'd like to see anyone get even 23p out of playgroup at the moment, so if the letter comes, wish them luck.
narnia Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 My setting, on the other hand, has benefitted to the tune of £5 MILLION pounds, from a lady in Malaysia who ' is terminally ill and has decided to share her wealth with me. All I have to do is get in touch with her solicitor, giving him all my personal details, bank etc and the money is mine, with no catches'...................hmm, well a new scam is born every minute!
Rea Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I only get spam about Viagra and Rolex, I suppose I could time.... No!
purplewednesday1 Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Narnia ... would it be very wrong of me to think about sending your ailing lady the bank details I recieved on my letter today!?! There could be a match made in heaven! pw x
Fredbear Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Thank you for alerting us to yet another scam, getting loads at the mo, just enter your bank details, as if i'm really going to do that, it drives you nuts, but i'm sure some poor soul will.
HappyMaz Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I only get spam about Viagra and Rolex, I suppose I could time.... No! There just has to be a joke there, but maybe I'll save that for another time! Like you Rea, I'd like to see anyone get money out of me at the moment. However it is amazing how many bigger companies might cough up the money, as Steve's link shows. Thanks PW for the heads up!
Beau Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 When a seemingly official letter arrives on your doorstep I guess some people automatically think its legitimate and pay up quickly and without question. I'm always much more cynical and would have to have the money prised from me. (Think Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost..... )
Rea Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Me too. I am always suspicious of letters on glossy paper, unfortunatly its how the bank correspond so I miss vital information, seemingly.
aan Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 ialso recieved an invoice from a company called Fresh. they say i owe them £199 for an advert in their community handbook. I rang then today after recieving my 4th demand, a young girl answered not at all proffessional, has passed my complaint on to the manager, i am awaiting his response !!
Rea Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 If I havent asked for something I pop it back into tthe letter box and write on it in black marker pen 'NOT REQUESTED'. Junk mail seems to reduce after a while.
SueFinanceManager Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I like saving it up and then posting different stuff back to different companies in there prepaid envelopes
Guest Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Hi Thank you for the warning. I really don't know how people can do this. But I bet someone will do it. Dorinda
