emmajess Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Next week I'd like to have sand in the sand tray that can be sculpted - sticking together more than just damp sand would. What can I mix it with? If I mix it with fairy liquid, does that work? If so, do I mix it with wet , damp or dry sand? And what kind of quantity? I've been meaning to do this for ages, just haven't got round to it! Thanks in advance!
Panders Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Not sure about fairy liquid - that would make sand mousse - but have never been successful with this personally - we have invested in Moon Sand this is commercial stuff, but it does mould very easily and usually comes with moulding equipment.
Guest Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I found this website from USA where you can make your own moon sand using normal play sand.
Panders Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Very impressed with recipe SP61HJ Can't wait to give this a test run. Children would love to mix this up.
Guest Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Fab have been looking for this as well, Thank you this will come in very usefull, but I was just thinking th same thing tho ...... Is it?????? Kat Edited May 15, 2009 by Guest
Guest Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Just checked on wikipedia - cornstarch is indeed cornflour
Guest heleng Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 We had some sand called Delta sand that is similar to moon sand and can be sculpted and sticks together but it can't be mixed with water. It was also quite expensive at 8.99 a kg but the children loved it. Unfortunately it hasn't lasted long this time round as the children used it as snow balls
Guest Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 (edited) Bring Back Persil Stars! We had loads of Delta Sand with those and the children loved it! As you say it is very expensive and actually branded for children over 5! I've just read the recipe and am also going to have a go, sounds great. Not sure about the commercially available coloured sand tho..... I understood it stains quite badly.... what are your experiences? Edited June 5, 2009 by Guest
Panders Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 We have used pink sand from Early Learning Centre, no problems whatsoever, but they don't do it any longer. Have just got a supply of purple sand from Homebase, that has been fine.
