woodlands1997
Yea that's a good idea I might do that too, maybe a kind of list thing, wear gloves, aprons etc !!!
Lynne28
yes I will do the same, maybe colour code mop and bucket etc which we already do but think if it happens in the rooms we may need to be careful of cross infection on which mop and bucket to use. Guest
Hi does anyone have any advice about whether using bleach in toilets after children have left ie overnight is ok - grateful for any help
woodlands1997
We do but flush before use the next morning x
Guest
thanks - we have just looked at updates on pla template policies which mentioned not using bleach at all so were unsure whether there was any recent guidance that banned bleach from settings, we have always used it at the end of the session and flushed before we open up as you do. May consider rewording the template to state our current practice
woodlands1997
Oh, I've not long updated our policies using ndna templates and there isn't anything in theirs about bleach so would think it's just their advice maybe rather than 'law' x
Guest
we had a conversation with Environmental Health; we were asked what we used to wipe down work tops at end of day (bearing in mind no children go in the kitchen) - we said bleach. Cue sucking in of air through teeth and slight shake of head. We asked what we should use - he suggested sterilising fluid or hot water/washing up liquid "though that's not the most effective product" me; "so what's best to use?" him; "bleach" have to admit I've ruined a few pairs of trousers/skirts/shoes over the years but you can't beat the reassuring smell of bleach! (only I use it, staff not allowed to)
Cait
Sterilising fluid IS bleach, it just seems more expensive! I just put a damp cloth over the top of the bottle of bleach and upend it once or twice and used that to wipe the work tops. I buy the cheapo brand in wilko which is quite good enough for putting down toilets and wiping work tops! I got the coshh sheet from the customer service desk many moons ago
lynned55
I have no COSHH sheets either. But after updating a lot of policies last few days am now beginning to think perhaps I should have some. Where do i get them from? I also noticed the thing about not using bleach but just took it out of our policy. We never use when the children are around anyway.
lashes2508
Bleach should not be used in children's toilets as residue may be left and burn or cause reaction,( learnt this when school caretaker) we use anti bac wipes and anti bac spray . Cait
Thanks, Lashes. We only put a little bit down, scrub around with the brush, rinse the brush in the flush, brush again and then rinse flush again. This is end of the day when children have gone
klc106
We don't have any coshh sheets either. Should everyone have them?
lashes2508
White vinegar with a little lemon is ideal for cleaning and is effective as bleach or anti bac as 99% anti bac .

woodlands1997
Yea a lot of our stuff is tesco! So eg their daisy (cheap) bleach, just google daisy bleach safety data sheet and it comes up. That's what I've done for all the things we get from tesco or similar x
