Guest MaryEMac Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I've just been to the dentist because I cracked my tooth on new years eve. I was amazed, because my appointment was at 2.30 and I was back home at 3.00 after having my tooth out. You have to bear in mind that my dentist is in the next town and it takes approx 15-20 minutes to get there. MY daughter in law picked me up at 2.00, I went in just before my time and by 2.45 I was back in reception minus my tooth and £44.60. The numbness is slowly wearing off and I now have a little discomfort. I hope it heals quickly, I'm supposed to be going out for a meal on Thursday. Mary Quote
JacquieL Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Well done for going through with it. I would have been a hundred miles away nursing a cracked tooth. I hate going to the dentist. I hope you don't have too much discomfort and perhaps couple of brandy's should sort it out if you do. Quote
HappyMaz Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Ooh Mary - you're very brave. Like Jacquie I hate the dentist - what a peculiar job to have when you spend your day doing things that hurt people and getting paid! Hope you heal quickly! Maz Quote
beth1 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Well done ouch is indeed I have had my wisdom tooth out a couple of years ago and that hurt so I know how you are feeling. One of my fillings fell out and NYE I had a tempory one put in only for it to last 4 hours!!! Off to get it sorted next Monday afternoon, oooOoo I hate needles! Beth Quote
Sue R Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Mary, that's amazing! I broke a tooth and had to have it taken out - took about an hour and a half!! The broken bit came out easy-peasy, but the rest really wanted to stay where it was! Crown was not an option (apparently) as it had broken across the root. Dentist had to keep drilling at it then breaking bits off.... remembering it now, I think I probably deserved a medal - especially since I went back to work . Sue Quote
Guest MaryEMac Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I'm not allowed to do strenous exercise, drink hot drinks, or drink alcohol because they can cause the socket to bleed, so that's your idea up the spout Jacquie. Does cooking tea come under the heading of strenuous exercise, I wonder? Mary Quote
Guest Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 well done you.. i hate dentists.... don't forget to rinse with salted water... it really helps and stops it getting infected... Quote
hali Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 oh Mary no you cant cook tea - way too strenuous Quote
Susan Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I agree, cooking dinner tonight is not your job! Far too risky. Something soft may be in order though? And not too hot? Hope you feel better soon. Quote
Guest Wolfie Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I feel for you Mary, having had two out in the last couple of years. Just keep taking the pain killers every four hours for the next couple of days, after that you should be feeling a lot better. And definitely no tea-cooking duties! Quote
Rea Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I'm slowly building myself up to be brave enough to phone the dentist. The colds I'gve suffered since the begining of November have given me swolllen gums and one tooth has moved, it was loose anyway. Now I cant bite. Well done you for being brave. I hope you got a sticker Quote
MrsWeasley Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I'm slowly building myself up to be brave enough to phone the dentist. Oh no, Cait keeps telling me I need to go to the dentist Just thinking about the dentist, my toothache has come back Quote
Rea Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Mines been taken out. I am so brave. Phoned on my own, went on my own. Almost forgot to breath through the injecion but once that had worked it took 3 seconds for the tooth to come away. So glad that particular horrible looking thing isnt in my mouth anymore. For anyone suffering. Do it. Make that call. Quote
Cait Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth out just before Christmas a couple of years ago. Top 2 one week and bottom 2 ten days later on Christmas eve eve. I had my dinner though on Christmas day! even though it was chopped up small. You must 'sloosh' with hot salty water, it will take the discomfort out of your jaw and make it so you can open your mouth to eat! Quote
