Guest Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hi all. Its been a while as we (as a family) have been away for new year for the first time ever!! We just got home........ much as I loved being away I haven't enjoyed the trip home. Drive to the airport, long wait for plane, a trip home where I couldn't sleep and then feeling sick with tiredness on the car journey home. Oh joy!! But we did spend New Year in New York so its a small price to pay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Boy was it cold though! Anyway wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy 2009. Must be time for bed now............... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Quote
Cait Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 My daughter is going to NYC in a few days - she needs thermals then eh? Quote
HappyMaz Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Its been a while as we (as a family) have been away for new year for the first time ever!! Its a strange feeling, being away from home during Christmas and/or New Year. We once went to Fuerteventura on the day after Boxing Day and spent New year in the sunshine! Lovely, but makes you feel even colder when you have to come back to an English winter! Would love to go to New York - perhaps for my 50th... must start saving! Quote
Guest Wolfie Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 (edited) I always find the journey home from anywhere really hard - I've switched out of holiday mode and am just thinking of getting home and all the things to do. I wish you could just be "tardissed" home in a matter of seconds once a holiday is over! I bet you had a fab time in New York, even if it WAS freezing - we went during Feb half term a couple of years ago and experienced similar temperatures but still loved it. What did you do whilst you were there? Skating in Central Park by any chance?? Edited January 4, 2009 by Wolfie Quote

Guest Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Hi, Hope you had a fantastic time. Happy New Year to you all!!!!! Quote
Guest Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 It WAS a fantastic trip, its is just a shame that getting home couldn't be quicker!!! Thermals are a MUST for anyone heading out there right now!!!!! And a large coat......... so you can get at leat 3 layers of clothes on underneath. Oh and make it at least a three quarter length coat.......... otherwise the legs get frozen off!!! And take a hat!!! We had a great time with the highlight being the family trip to see Phantom of the Opera. Superb seats and as always a GREAT show. Other highlights included early morning on the empire state building in the snow!!! Evening sunset from the top of the Rock. Skating in central park....... you have to!!! Visiting the John Lennon memorial... Times Square for New Years Eve, with a million other folks (at least) and a temp of minus 10 degrees. Helicopter ride round the sights..... oh and seeing the statue of liberty from high up! Visiting ground zero. Profoundly moving. And just seeing the sights really!!! Oh and shopping. And eating!!!!!!!!!!!! I had been before but my family had not so it was a trip full of second times for me but still wonderful. Back to it now though........ Quote
Beau Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Sounds fab! I hope you are feeling slightly less travel fatigued today though. Quote
