Hi.........who would work in Early Years eh?!!! :oxD

It's meant to be half-term!

If you do a forum search for 'Exemplar SEF' - you will find loads of info. + some very generous people have uploaded their completed SEFs

Sunnyday

Ah quick edit to say ........ they may be only pre-school........I don't know how 'different' the format is!

If you are in a school you will find that the SEFs on here are those used by the PVI sector and are quite a different format from a school SEF. I'm sure someone from the maintained sector will come along soon with some advice. In the meantime you may find this discussion useful and the link provided by mundia.

Hi Anj

Updated info on the schools SEF can be found

here

I would tackle this in note form only to begin with, and you will need to discuss this with your SMT/leadership group and also your staff team.

Some parts are easier to write than others, for example outcomes you will need your profile data for the current year (just published) and also previous years to see where there are trends. If you haven't yet done this, this is a good place to start. It is important that you are realistic in your judgments, and also that you can justify them. For example if you say the quality of provision is 'good', why is it/ What makes it good? If you refer to some of the guidance documents on the page linked to above, there are some descriptions of what good, outstanding etc might look like. They are not specific to EYFS but give you that general idea.

Out of interest are there any members here who have recently completed or about to complete their school SEF so that you can share ideas about how you made your judgements?

Thank you mundia, that is really helpful. I find sorting data and 'how do you know' questions really difficult to summarise. I hope there is someone out there who has completed their form and can give me some more help! If i manage to do it, then I will pass on what i have done to help others x

Hi Anj.

Ive just had a thought, there must have been SEF in place before now which would have included sections on the FS? It should need updating rather than a complete rewrite? Do you know if there is anything already there for you to go through first?

Hi

I've completed our new SEF and had OFSTED the week before half term! The first primary school in our LA to be done under the new framework too.

The new SEF was relativley easy to complete, just decide roughly what category your setting falls into for each section (Outstanding, Good, Satisfactory) and then work though the OFSTED criteria for that judgement and that section - use each sentence as a subheading for your SEF comments and then state what you do to meet that statement.

Hope that helps :o
