  2. Quick bites of Animal Welfare - fun and easy to do During these strange times the RSPCA prevention and education team is aiming to provide teachers, parents and carers with engaging activities that will get young people thinking and debating animal issues. Learning new things is always fun and it is good to take the focus off ourselves and explore topics that could really change things for the better for both animals and the planet. There is a lot more to think about than you would imagine - dip into some of these suggested activities and resources, you'll be surprised what little changes we could make to improve the lives of animals. Find all the details here https://education.rspca.org.uk/home-resources?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoJaD45bq6AIVV-DtCh1gdAckEAAYAiAAEgJ1gvD_BwE
  3. For as long as schools are closed, we're open. Right now, kids everywhere can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories, including titles across six different languages, that will help them continue dreaming, learning, and just being kids. All stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet. Explore the collection, select a title and start listening. - find the link here https://stories.audible.com/start-listen
  4. My brilliantly talented colleague Kat who has been trying to teach us all to draw has created this video tutorial to teach children (and grownups) how to draw a dinosaur: Feel free to share it with anyone and everyone and if you want to share your dinosaurs here when you have done them be great to see them As soon as the next one is available I will share that too.
  5. This is fabulous! I definitely recommend watching this. Each Thursday, at 4pm on Facebook, Julia Donaldson will be singing one of her songs or reading a story. Afterwards, she is then joined by the illustrator of the book. This week's was of Julia and her husband singing the most joyful version of her story 'A Squash and a Squeeze'. Then the clip went to Axel Scheffler who demonstrated how he drew the animals to illustrate the story. I loved this so much I watched it three times Next week, she is sharing her new book 'What the ladybird heard at the seaside' and will be joined by the illustrator Lydia Monks Incase the link doesn't work, search The Gruffalo on Facebook and hopefully you'll find it.
  6. Axel Scheffler says: Follow this link to download the book- although aimed at Primary school children, I think if used carefully, it would be suitable for younger children too: https://axelscheffler.com/books-for-older-children/coronavirus

  10. Hi This is a real tricky one isn't it as part of the reason for furloughed staff to keep in touch with the children/families is about maintaining relationships with them while staff and children have to be apart. We at the FSF have been emailing all sorts of people in government offices trying to get a definitive answer and if we do we will post it for sure. In the meantime this might be of help: https://www.eyalliance.org.uk/news/2020/04/government-confirms-furlough-flexibility The Early Years Alliance are really working hard to ensure that settings have flexibility and I am sure the question of continued contact will be answered eventually!
