louby loo Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Well, I think CH must have picked up on all my failed attempts yesterday - as this morning I have had an email with 'step-by-step' instructions! 😂 I have decided not to do a 'list' today, as I'm really liked the 'timetable' idea instead. I just need to do something to keep the brain more focused- but still actually using it to remember to do things without visual prompts! 😂 x 2 Quote
zigzag Posted August 4 Posted August 4 (edited) Froglet what about putting them on marketplace for free. Thats what I do. Just got rid of a computer chair and filing cabinet this way. Edited August 4 by zigzag 1 Quote

I've found that planning to do the same thing for more than 2 hours inevitably fails but I give my permission to stop after the allocated time even if the task isn't completely finished and I make sure that I plan in 'down time' too. So the other day I had something like 11 - 1.00 sort spare room, 1.00 - 2.00 lunch/reading, 3.00 - 4.00 ironing/tidy living room etc. Sometimes if I'm really procrastinating I set my timer for 15 minutes and just do a task for that long. Mainly because I'm not really on Facebook and the whole idea intimidates me!! 😆 I just accidentally discovered an old episode of Bake Off where they were making Viennese whirls - now I want to bake something... 2 1 Quote

Water was 'off' overnight but back on this morning... Hey ho - surprised that it has held out this long really! 1 2 Quote

Ah thanks - we are fine - off overnight but back on this morning - will see what happens next - we have developed a really odd approach to this, just resignation i suppose... I had my hair cut this morning, my lovely hairdresser works from her home in the village - she has had water leak outside her house for at least six weeks - when I went in I said "see you've still got your water feature then" - she replied "they have been out and given it a poke, several times, but that's as far as it goes" - beggars belief really Are your 'Kent family' having problems where they are? louby loo Posted August 5 Posted August 5 OK, I just want to put this out there - I salute all you here that have raised boys! I mean, i know they are different from working with them - but my, at home it's relentless 😂 I've had the GS for a sleep over and I'm now nervous wreck, he's a lovely little thing, no behaiour issues or anything....but a 'why walk when you can run' kind of child, and everything is so noisy car/trains have to crash all the time etc. Everything is just so full on 😜 On the plus side though, once in bed he takes about 3 minutes to fall alseep bless him 😘 ... unlike his much more chilled out sister, who would spend all night chatting if she could! 2 1 Quote
sunnyday Posted August 7 Author Posted August 7 Good morning - 'tis Friday! Think that I shared my news throughout the week so nothing much to add today... Have a good weekend all x 1 Quote

Froglet Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Good morning! I feel like I need a drum roll here... My spare room is empty and clean! Admittedly much of the 'stuff' is in the bath because I have a very small house and there was nowhere else to put it! I can't use it at the moment as the hot tap's not working - a plumber is coming in a week and a half so that's my motivation to get it emptied! I'm popping over to mum and dad's to borrow a camp bed and will then set it up to make a lovely bedroom for my 9 year old niece who is coming to stay for the first time on Sunday. I've done various bits of browsing about things to do together and some crochet will definitely be on the agenda as I taught her how when I stayed last autumn and she's going to do some baking as we're going to invite granny and grandpa for tea and she's doing pudding! Once her visit is over I'm going to continue with sorting and maybe even start decorating the spare room - or at the very least visit B&Q! 1 Quote

I do hope that you and your niece have a lovely time together - I know you will... In other news - have just order 500 litres of oil - have been holding off for as long as possible hoping that the situation in Middle East might change/improve (not just for my sake onviously) 500 litres will cost me £437.43 - oh my actual goodness - that's a lot of money - hey ho could be worse! 1 Quote
zigzag Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Sunnyday, I’m not sure if they are having problems with the water in their area. I know they have been on a hosepipe ban for quite a while. They are in chelsfield and sevonoaks. Our ban started today! No wonder with the amount of visitors currently in Cornwall, we just don’t have capacity to deal with the extra. Glad I filled my water butt with the hose yesterday! We need to order oil before winter but trying to hold off as long as we can but before the price goes up even more! It’s a fine line. Froglet so glad you have your room cleared, but it did make me giggle that your bath is now full. Hope you have a lovely time with your niece. Louby Lou I salute anyone that has raised girls! The thought of that gives me the chills! 1 1 Quote
sunnyday Posted 7 hours ago Author Posted 7 hours ago Good morning - 'tis Friday How is everyone? Not sure that you want to hear from me today - seem to be in 'misery mode' - so sick of these heatwave conditions, I read somewhere yesterday (can't remember where) 'this summer has been more of an endurance test than a season' - yep, that is so true - I have been bitten to death, my garden is frazzled (despite my best efforts to keep everything going), Mr S is suffering...but then I look at the news reports of those poor, poor people who have lost their homes in Stourbridge, I think about all of the wildlife that will have perished in the wildfires and I think 'c'mon now, I have nothing to complain about'! High spot of my week was sitting quietly in the garden, with Mr S for the eclipse - we didn't attempt to view it but just enjoyed the change of light and watching our starlings come home to roost in neighbour's conifer trees, they obviously thought it was their bedtime... Right then, onwards and upwards I must (and will) recover my humour! Have a lovely (hopefully not quite so hot) weekend all x 1 Quote
SueFinanceManager Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Hi Sunnyday I am trying not to moan about the weather because goodness knows it will be wet and cold soon enough but I am British....I am not designed for 30* plus weather lol I am more than happy with 24* to 27* that's nice - lovely and warm and you can still do stuff but 30* is too much for me unless I am by a pool with a cocktail. Trying to work and do anything is just so tiring. We have a dog and taking turns to get up between 6am & 7am to walk him before it gets too hot is exhausting 🙃 I have a few days off the end of next week as our 'holiday romance friends' are coming to visit - we met them in Majorca in 2000 when all our kids were ages 6-2 and when the holiday ended we never thought we would see them again but 26 years on we still get together when we can - not that often as they are in Scarborough and we are in Sussex but always a hoot when we do. Take care of yoursleves and hope you all enjoy your weekends whatever you do - probably best to do whatever you do in the shade xxx 2 Quote
Froglet Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Hi all, I just remembered what day it is! I am currently sitting on the sofa in a darkened room (having not opened the curtains in order to keep the heat out). It definitely helps but like you both I'm not good with heat plus I'm missing seeing the daylight! I've had a lovely week - time with my niece was good, we completed 4 crochet projects between us - I was so impressed at how much she's improved since I taught her in the autumn. Apparently she and her friend at school both do crochet and sit on the field crocheting together. She doesn't recommend it as you get bits of dry grass in your wool! There's a TA at school who's helped them and showed her how to do a granny square. We had one day out and then her last day was a 'crochet day' at home. My nephew got his A-level results yesterday and did brilliantly and got into his first choice of uni. We're all very proud of him but it's also a big change coming - I think my sister is going to need some TLC when he goes. I forgot to tell you all that the week before I made my first ever strawberry jam. So this week I invited a friend round for 'afternoon tea' in my garden - I made the table all pretty and she'd brought shortbread and cakes while I made scones and lemonade and we had a lovely time catching up with each other. Next week I am continuing the sorting and clearing - including emptying the bath so the plumber can actually get to it! Have a great weekend everyone. 1 1 Quote
sunnyday Posted 4 hours ago Author Posted 4 hours ago Young Froglet - what a lovely time you have had - I am so pleased for you! Brilliant that your niece has picked up how to crochet - she couldn't have a better mentor! Huge congrats to your nephew. Your afternoon tea sounds wonderful. 1 Quote
