Power went off at 6:30 on Thursday evening and has just been turned on at 7:30 on Sunday evening. But we also have no water since Saturday! Which is hideous. Thankfully all the family are safe and so are our houses. We have lost all our fence and lots of ceramic pots and mum lost her greenhouse but nothing else luckily. Some people had their windows blown in. A massive fir tree came down at the top of the village which was quite a sight, luckily no one hurt. It was a very frightening experience, the noise was awful, except the eye of the storm which was eerily quiet and still. Not an experience I want to repeat. Hope everyone else is safe and well. Good here you and your homes are all safe. xx 1 Quote
sunnyday Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 Is your water supply back yet zigzag? Really hope so it is miserable trying to cope with bottles. Kent County Council have today declared a 'major incident' - so many across the county without water, I feel so sorry for them...<touch wood> no problem here this time Quote
zigzag Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Our water came back on Saturday just before they delivered bottles! Then it’s been a bit intermittent as they get all the repairs sorted. But just had an automated message to say they are closing the bottled water collection points, so guess it’s all sorted now. I was prepared for the power cut but not for the water disruption! It’s the last thing you think of in a storm. But very grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to get it sorted. My son’s power has only just been restored in the last hour. So that’s such a long time to be off. 3 Quote
sunnyday Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 (edited) Good morning - 'tis Friday Very difficult week - my poor MIL is in hospital following a fall - she is 94 and the dearest lady... Hope everyone else is having a much better week Take care all x Edited January 16 by sunnyday Quote
zigzag Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Oh Sunnyday am sorry to hear that. Has she hurt herself badly? Falling is such a worry at that age isn’t it. I send my best wishes. Another reminder to self to start doing some kind of strength training! Starting a weekly clean today for a new client. Was meant to be last week but after the storm that was not possible. So today’s the day. Why do I always get nervous going to a new job, it’s so daft. She Is my childhood best friends Mum as well so she has seen me grow up since I was 8! The New Year’s resolution to not overthink or get anxious about silly things has totally gone out the window (and did by the 1st Jan if I’m honest) Blooming hormones have SO much to answer for. Hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you are doing. Sunnyday much love to you and mum in law. Xx Quote
louby loo Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Sending positives vibes for your MIL sunnyday. Zigzag, I'm also an 'overthinker' so understand where you're coming from. Pretty run-of-the-mill standard week for me. Hope everyone has a good weekend. x 1 Quote
Froglet Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Sorry to hear that Sunnyday, sending good wishes your way. Zigzag/Louby - another one for the overthinking club here! I have had a very lazy week so nothing much to report! Have a good weekend everyone, take care. 1 Quote
zigzag Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Froglet and Louby, do you think it’s a women thing or an age thing or both? I’ve always been a worrier even when I was younger but I can’t recall that I used to overthink everything like this. My worst time for it is from 5am every morning! 1 Quote
sunnyday Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 Just a very quick friday message to say that my dear Mother in Law passed away last night...it was very peaceful for her, Mr S and I were with her as she she slipped quietly from this world to the next... Take care all x 1 Quote
zigzag Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Dearest Sunnyday, I’m so very sorry to hear this and send you and Mr S my condolences. I’m so glad you were both with her when she passed. It’s a very hard thing to do but am sure it was a comfort to her and will be to you both in the days to come. Much love. Xx 1 Quote

Even when he'e obviously full of cold- you can hear him sniffing but NOTHING at all from nose! However he does breath through nose all the time 🤷♀️ Managed a sneaky schoolday lunch with GD yeasterday she had an 11'c Dr appointment, so out of school at 10.45, and back afterlunch for her. Made a nice surprise for her. Now for the biggest laugh....... I'm planning to sort all my craft stuff this afternoon! 😂😂😂 If I do a full inventory- I'll know what I can buy next! 😮😂 Have a good weekend all 2 Quote

Sorting my spare room (of doom) is eternally on my list and it is mostly filled with craft stuff. At the moment I seem to just be moving it from one side of the room to the other! I went for a walk at Calke the other day and the woods were filled with snowdrops - such a joyous, hopeful sight. They are filling their 'auricula' with pots with all the different varieties they have - who knew there were so many! I have almost finished a second sock - a new to me pattern which had a stitch pattern which required much counting. It's been worth it and I'm inspired to have a go at other sock patterns now. Family weekend this weekend to celebrate my sister's 50th. I'm doing food for Saturday night (just jacket spuds and assorted toppings) and have just finished baking a salted caramel sponge cake for a birthday cake. Apparently my youngest niece (9) is bringing her crochet down for a mentoring session with Aunty Froglet. I showed her some basics when I visited in the autumn and she requested a 'crochet kit' for Christmas so I put one together from a bag I made and lots of mini balls wound from my stash. I'm thrilled she's enjoying it. She is also very into Swallows and Amazons. My brother reads with her each night and had borrowed a load of my childhood favourites from me - she loved Swallows and Amazons and has been playing it - making maps, creating dens under the stairs to be the camp and roping her 2 year old brother in to play key roles! Have a good weekend everyone! 1 1 Quote

Happy 50th to your sister and happy crochet session with your niece! I love, love, loved Swallows and Amazons too - my younger brother and I spent many happy hours engaged in playing this! 1 Quote

zigzag Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Saw the first snowdrops of the year this week and they did make me smile on a rainy and windy day! Just had a visit from my son and Grandson (what a special thing that is to watch your baby become a Dad and see that love develop) He is nearly five months now! Just where does the time go. Going through a slightly grumpy stage at the moment but luckily Nana has the back of getting smiles and then getting him to sleep. Am on countdown now for our cruise in April oh to see some sunshine (hopefully) Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. 2 Quote
