Hi all

As I have said in previous posts we are really low on numbers for September, having 5 on our list.

We are thinking because we are in such a small village, that we would benefit from offering a pick up and drop off service but worried about the initial cost of a minibus etc.

I was wondering if we got permission from parents could I use my car in the beginning until we know if a minibus is a worthy investment.

What do you all think?

Thanks

This is my other problem. I am named driver on my mums disability car so business insurance is not possible, would you be able to be covered by preschool insurance?

It's very confusing but I think it would really benefit us

There's potentially more to it I think - I've read about this today in Nursery World 4-17th May 2015, There's an A4 page spread about it .

How a council is looking at making nurseries have a Private Hire license, even though one of the nurseries doesn't charge the parents for the service - it also mentions that practioners would be required to become Licensed Taxi drivers.

It maybe worth your while doing a little investigation work with your council first.

You need buisness class on the vehicle and also two staff for safety, you would have to produce insurance, mot to Ofsted on request during a visit.

Are there any big/medium sized businesses on route through the village etc you could strike up a deal - If say 3 or more employees from the company use the setting you will offer all ??% discount if 6 or more attend then discount could increase. Or do an across board discount.

you could do same for local school to offer same to the teachers T/a's etc there too. xx

The local breakfast/afterschool club owner uses her own car. She definately doesn't have two members of staff in it and she takes children from age 3

Childminders carry children on their own by car all the time. Perhaps our childminders here can enlighten us on what they do as a starting point.

For me it's always just been making sure that my cover includes business use.

I did investigate getting parents to pay fuel or a mileage contribution for car journeys and was told clearly by my insurers that this would be classed as driving for hire or reward and invalidate my insurance, i.e I would need a private hire license.

They did, however, say that I could let the parents know I had transported their children by car and allow them to add a donation onto what they paid me as long as I didn't discuss the size of the donation with them.
