Termly information for parents to support learning at home

Hi I just wondered if you send anything home each term to share with parents about what the children we be learning and practicing each term?

Our EYA said we need to be giving parents ideas of what they could do at home with their child.

I.e. if the focus is maths- numbers give examples of how parents could support children's counting at home.

We send a brief bit of info about what we will be doing and suggestions for what they could do at home. Nothing special, we add bits to the notice board to reflect the children's own learning . For example they started to line chairs up to go on the bus , we planned our enhancements around this put pics on the board with suggestions for parents and print out of wheels on the bus to take home.

Seems to work for us not a huge take up by parents but the odd bit of feedback has been good Ofsted seemed to like it.

I write down the weekly focus activities and put them next to the signing in sheet. I also put them on our website. Most parents read them the ones that don't are the ones that turn up when we have closed for holidays!!!

We send each child's targets home as they change, with this is ideas for home learning how we would plan I.e. Not focusing on the end result therefore educating the parents also in the benefits of the smaller steps and skills required. We tend not to do a whole setting one purely as we cater for different age ranges it's complicated but we do it every so often. :)

In our setting each key person will send home their child's next steps and on this sheet we give ideas to parents to how they can support this at home, prob similar to above post. The parents keep a copy and make notes on the back of it and feed back to us. we only started this recently and its proving really useful. Parents like the involvement and its not too time consuming. x

We do a plan each term for each child one next step across all areas. However it's the information we give which I'm struggling with as I do not want to seem patronising?

I would also welcome some ideas on this

It seems to be one of the things that Ofsted are now looking for - it gets mentioned in the things they need to do to improve section, along with standard of 'teaching' :-(

Easy when you know how :D thank you.

I don't know if this is what you mean but this is an example of what we put together for the parents each term. We split the children into groups e.g butterflies, caterpillars etc depending on age.

The only thing that changes is the 'what we are doing this term' and is not an exhaustive or exclusive list but we find that parents like it as they can start to think about what the children might be bringing in for 'show and tell' or if they are able to help in any way.

Hope this helps - and now I can attach documents as well whoohoo

The bit in the middle is where we have our logo and staff names with they days they work. The local schools produce these and we thought we would do the same so the parents are familiar with it when their children go.
